The second match-up of Round 2 was between “Baepsae” (Korean crow-tit) and “Doenjang” (Korean soybean paste). Baepsae sang Jo Jung Hyun’s “Even Loved the Pain” and impressed the panelists with his fresh, sweet tone and powerful voice. Doenjang, whom the panelists suspected was an actor, sang Oh Seung Geun’s “What’s Wrong with My Age?”, showing an unexpected energetic side.
Baepsae won the round and advanced to Round 3, singing Lee Hyun Woo’s “I Only Have to Erase You From My Sadness.” Competing against him was Mint Choco, who sang Rain’s “I Do.”
In the end, Mint Choco advanced to Round 4 to challenge the champion, Stove Cat, and Baepsae took off his mask to reveal himself as MONSTA X’s Minhyuk.
Minhyuk is the fourth member of MONSTA X to appear on the show. He said, “I was really nervous but I got a lot of compliments. People called me by the names of senior artists whom I really respect.”
He jokingly teased the members of DONGKIZ on the panel. “I’m an MC on a music show, and they came up to me and said they’d been huge fans since they were young,” he said. “They said that they’d been to our concerts. I was so moved. But they didn’t recognize me at all.”
Minhyuk also shared that he knew Stove Cat’s identity. “I’ve been a fan of his for a long time, so I know who it is,” he said. “I have a feeling about it. It’s a voice that I’ve been waiting to hear for a while. I’ve never met him in person but if I get the chance I’d like to greet him and shake his hand. It was an honor to stand on the same stage as him. If we meet again, I’d like to buy him a meal.”
On Twitter, Minhyuk wrote, “It was a meaningful time. If Monbebe liked it, then that’s enough. It was fun. Haha, thank you.”
