Krystal Talks About Hopes For f(x) Reunion, Difficulties Portraying A Pregnant Character, And More
f(x)’s Krystal talked about her silver-screen debut with the film “More Than Family”!
The comedy drama film is about a college student named To Il (played by Krystal), whose passionate romance with a younger guy leads to her getting pregnant. When she’s five months along in her pregnancy, she heads out on a search to find her birth father, whom she hasn’t heard from in 15 years, and the soon-to-be father who left home.
Having watched the film, Krystal revealed, “The scenario was interesting to read, but the film was even more interesting than I expected. I couldn’t picture how it would turn out, and I didn’t see a lot of the edited videos, so I was worried. Our chemistry was good, and it was fun.” Krystal added that she wanted to take on the role because acting involved taking on new challenges.
On leading the film alone, Krystal shared, “Since it was my first film as well as the director’s first film, we said we should get everything completely prepared without problems. However, some days, I suddenly felt like I couldn’t do it and cried in frustration.”
She continued, “I said I would do it because I thought I could do it well, but when I saw the script three days later again, I wondered why I said I could do it and if I could do it well. Whenever I felt that, I met the director and spoke with her a lot. Honestly, I feel this way each project. Before filming, I face a crisis. That builds and explodes. Afterwards, I think, ‘Whatever.’ I think I feel better after exploding like that once.”
Krystal also talked about her role as a pregnant woman. She shared, “I tried to find the lightest maternity belt, but my waist and neck hurt because I was using it for a long time. My body also became bent. Before filming, I thought most about how a pregnant person would move, but my posture and walk came out naturally after wearing the maternity belt. So I thought more of To Il’s emotions than the pregnancy.”
The actress also revealed that she gained weight for the role. She commented, “I was on a diet, but the director told me I needed to fill in my cheeks more, so I went around eating well. I don’t normally weigh myself, so I don’t know how much I’ve gained, but it should be a lot. However, thanks to that, it came out looking natural, so it was good.”
On similarities with her character, Krystal shared that they both believed in themselves and acted with responsibility. She explained that the two were unlike when it came to their families. Krystal revealed, “I follow my family’s opinions well. I listen to them well, and I’m surprisingly conservative.” She continued, “I’m the type to get advice from family. Whenever I have a concern or bad news, I talk about it all.”
Krystal also shared that she’s not as brave as To Il who went to find her father with very few clues. Krystal shared, “I’m a coward. I prefer being thorough, organizing with detail, and setting a plan.”
Furthermore, Krystal revealed that she had great chemistry with Choi Duk Moon, who treated her playfully like a niece, and Jang Hye Jin, whom she talked a lot with. Krystal commented, “I think it’ll remain in my memories a lot. I don’t want to put too much meaning into ‘firsts,’ but it is my first film and my first role as a pregnant woman.” She recommended watching the film because many people would relate to it.
Krystal also brought up her group f(x). She shared, “I naturally came across acting, and it’s not that I quit being a singer to only be an actress. The timing just worked like that. If fans are upset, I’m also upset. I wondered why they thought I would quit being a singer because I’m acting.”
The singer went on to reveal that she’s always open to opportunities, hoping that people wouldn’t misunderstand her intentions. Regarding a potential f(x) reunion, she explained, “It’s not something that can happen because we want it, and there are a lot of conditions surrounding an album production. There were circumstances we can’t talk about, and I also think it’s a shame. We always talk amongst the members about meeting in the future.”
Although 12 years had passed since her debut through f(x), Krystal revealed that it didn’t feel that way even though she released at least one new album or participated in at least one new project every year. She shared, “When I start something, I’m the type who has to see it to the end,” adding that she always tried her best without regrets.
Finally, Krystal shared that she wanted to become an actress who makes people want to watch her projects. She added that the charm of acting was being able to live different lives, such as that of a pregnant person or a soldier.
