2020 Asia Artist Awards Daesang Winners Thank Their Fans, Staff, And More For Their Support During A Difficult Year
On November 28, the 2020 Asia Artist Awards took place without an audience due to COVID-19 precautions.
There were a total of six Daesangs (Grand Prizes) awarded at the 2020 Asia Artist Awards: Song of the Year, Performance of the Year, Stage of the Year, Trot of the Year, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year.
BTS won the Song of the Year for “Dynamite.” Through a video message, BTS said, “Thank you so much for giving us such a big award. In these difficult times, we’re happy and proud that ‘Dynamite’ was able to give people some amount of comfort and good energy. To ARMY, it’s thanks to you that we’re able to sing and perform on stage with happiness. It’s a shame that we weren’t able to attend the 2020 Asia Artist Awards due to our schedule, but we want to thank everyone who gave us this award. We’d like to thank the staff who work hard out of sight, including Bang Si Hyuk and all the people at Big Hit Entertainment. Thank you for showing our new album, ‘BE,’ lots of love!”
GOT7 won Performance of the Year for the second year in a row. JB said, “Continuing from last year, we were able to receive the Performance of the Year Award again this year. To our fans, Ahgases, I want to say thank you for always cheering us on. I hope that you can be as happy as you have made us. To our family at JYP Entertainment, who work side-by-side with us, I want to say thank you.” At this point, BamBam interrupted with loud whispers of specific people to mention. JB continued, “In 2020, there were a lot of things that happened. Whether it was bad or good, they were all experiences that helped us grow. Not just for us, but I hope this can be a good opportunity for everyone to grow and walk a better path. Through this award, GOT7 will work hard to become an even more hardworking team.” BamBam, Mark, and Jackson then added their thanks in Thai, English, and Chinese.
MONSTA X won their first Daesang at the Asia Artist Awards with Stage of the Year. Shownu said, “This is a big award that feels awkward on our shoulders. I’ll just say the official words and bow out. I’d like to thank our family at Starship Entertainment, including our hair and makeup and choreography team members who take care of us behind-the-scenes.” Kihyun said, “This is our first Daesang and it’s a heavy but meaningful honor that we can’t help but wonder if we can accept. But we will think of it as an award gifted to us by Monbebes and accept it with pride. A lot of love, support, and help got us to this place, but more than anyone else, it was Monbebe’s help that had the biggest impact. We love you and will continue to be a MONSTA X who puts on great performances.” I.M shared a similar speech to Kihyun’s in English and added, “I know you’re having a hard time too and I hope that the situation gets better soon and we can meet soon.” The MONSTA X members then shouted their love for their fans together.
NCT won Album of the Year with their full-member comeback “RESONANCE.” Taeyong said, “NCT 127 first won a Rookie Award at the Asia Artist Awards, so it feels especially meaningful to return here and receive this big award with all 23 members of NCT. Today is a meaningful and happy day. Thanks to SM Entertainment, Lee Soo Man, and all the SM staff who helped us reach these heights, as well as our personal staff and managers who work hard on our behalf. Although there were many struggles on the way, it was because the members were there for each other that we were able to receive such a big award. Finally, thank you to the fans who at the moment seem so far and yet so close to us at the same time.” Kun also gave a short speech in Chinese, and Jaemin thanked their fans again and asked them to look forward to an even better 2021.
For the second consecutive year, TWICE took home the Artist of the Year award. Nayeon said, “Thank you very much for giving us such a big award like Artist of the Year for the second year in a row. For us to receive this award, a lot of people worked hard with us and cheered us on. Isn’t that right?” She then thanked TWICE’s various personal staff members and added, “We couldn’t see them much this year, but due to ONCE’s support from a distance, we were able to receive such a big award again this year. Although we weren’t able to meet much this year, it was a happy year because we could feel your support from a distance. Let’s definitely meet next year. Thank you, ONCE!”
Breakout singer Im Young Woong also won the Daesang for Trot of the Year.
