"True Beauty" Webtoon Author Shares Her Thoughts On The Drama Adaptation And Casting

“True Beauty” webtoon author Yaongyi expressed her excitement for the upcoming tvN drama adaptation!

Based on the hit webtoon, the “True Beauty” drama is a romantic comedy about Lim Ju Gyeong (Moon Ga Young), who zealously uses makeup to hide her bare face and combat her insecurities about her looks. After she meets Lee Su Ho (ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo), a popular student who has his own emotional wounds, they share each other’s secrets and learn to heal through love. Hwang In Yeop co-stars as Han Seo Jun, an untamable rebel with a surprisingly warm heart. The drama will be helmed by director Kim Sang Hyub, who worked on “Extraordinary You.”

A recent interview with the author revealed that she was deeply moved to have her webtoon adapted into a drama. Author Yaongyi shared, “The webtoon ‘True Beauty’ is a story of how one person, who looks very different before and after makeup, faces various situations and matures through that experience.” She explained, “Therefore, I hope that the drama brings to life the growth process of the webtoon’s main character Ju Gyeong.”

The author also shared her satisfaction with the star-studded cast. She shared, “The actor I’m most anticipating is of course the actor of the main character, Ju Gyeong, who I pour the most amount of affection into.” She added, “I was really happy to hear that actress Moon Ga Young had been cast, and I’m looking forward to seeing how she’ll portray Ju Gyeong.”

When asked about what she focuses most on while producing the webtoon, author Yaongyi replied, “Due to the nature of webtoons, while the content is important, the visual aspects are also important, so I pay the most attention to the drawing quality.” She added, “I think it’s also important to naturally incorporate trendy fashion and beauty trends into the work, so I try to be sensitive to the current trends.”

Finally, the author shared, “I’m also counting down the days till the premiere of ‘True Beauty.’ Please continue to show lots of interest in the webtoon and drama ‘True Beauty.'”

The “True Beauty” webtoon was serialized in 2018 and has accumulated a total of 4 billion views, having garnered popularity in countries all over the world including the United States, Japan, France, and more. The webtoon can be read on Naver Webtoon’s website and mobile app.

The drama “True Beauty” is slated to premiere on December 9 at 10:30 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki.
