On December 15 at 6 p.m. KST, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon released her fourth solo mini album, titled “What Do I Call You.”

In an interview for her comeback, she shared some details about her album, her recent activities, and more. She said, “I’m happy that I can show my fans new music. The songs on this album feel like a good match for the end of 2020, so I hope that a lot of people will listen to it.”

Taeyeon added, “I tried not to go overboard on the album. I wanted it to reflect my current emotions, and I wasn’t really feeling attracted to bouncy or flashy songs.” She picked her title track as her favorite song on the album and said, “I’ve often liked the b-side tracks better than the title track, but this time I liked the title track from the first moment I heard it. Apart from the lyrics, the melody and mood are exactly my style.”

Taeyeon participated in writing and producing the b-side track “To the Moon.” Asked about her inspiration for the song, she said, “I just wrote about my daily life. I also wanted to write a song about my best friend, my dog Zero, so if you look at the lyrics, you’ll understand.”

She added that the concept for the album had been “vintage girlhood,” and reflected two different moods: before and after a breakup. In the music video, a person in a panda mask played the part of the “boyfriend.” She said, “I didn’t see their face once during filming. Thank you to the model who worked hard while wearing a mask.”

Taeyeon recently became a fixed cast member on a variety show for the first time in a decade. She said, “I think that ‘Amazing Saturday’ was the most ‘amazing’ thing that I’ve done recently. It was the first time I’d been a fixed variety show member in a long time, and it was a good chance for me to get along with people like the production staff, guests, and cast members.”
