Kim Myung Soo Opens Up About Enlisting In The Marines, His 1st Solo Single, And Turning 30

In a recent interview and pictorial for The Star magazine, INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo talked about his upcoming military enlistment and looked back on the past decade.

Kim Myung Soo is currently preparing to enlist in the Marine Corps on February 22, and he remarked, “I don’t know if this will be my last photo shoot before my enlistment.”

As for why he chose to serve in the Marine Corps specifically, he explained, “I didn’t really have any particular reason for signing up for the Marines. Since I’ll be serving in the military anyway, I want to do a good job while I’m there.”

Kim Myung Soo also spoke about his KBS 2TV drama “Royal Secret Agent,” in which he is currently starring as libertine-turned-secret-royal-inspector Sung Yi Kyum.

Describing what had appealed to him about the drama, he recalled, “I really liked its format and the way it was split up into different adventures. I was also really drawn to the character of Sung Yi Kyum, who lived the life of a libertine and then gradually started to grow and mature after receiving the assignment of royal secret agent.”

Before his upcoming enlistment, the idol-turned-actor will be releasing his first official solo single “Memory” on February 3.

“I always wanted to sing, and I wanted to give my fans a good song to listen to,” said Kim Myung Soo. “This song has to do with memory, and it has really great lyrics that have a sentimental vibe. Listening to it makes you feel calmer, and it also might make you feel a little soft and emotional.”

When asked to sum up his twenties in one sentence, Kim Myung Soo replied simply, “I worked hard.”

As the star turned 30 years old by Korean reckoning this year, he shared, “Things haven’t changed much now that I’m 30. I’m always pretty much the same. Though, as I get older year after year, I’m probably a bit more mature than the year before.”

“If I was lacking in any way,” he continued, “I worked hard to improve. Because I needed to do so in order for people to trust and look forward to me. I worked hard, and I did my best within the situations I was given.”

Finally, when asked what kind of actor or singer he hopes to become in the future, Kim Myung Soo thoughtfully remarked, “There isn’t necessarily a specific type of person I want to become. I’d like to improve my skills within my current situation and become someone who has more to offer.”
