Sisters IZ*ONE’s Lee Chae Yeon and ITZY’s Chaeryeong participated in an interview with Sports Seoul backstage at the 30th Seoul Music Awards.

At the 30th Seoul Music Awards, which took place on January 31, IZ*ONE won a Bonsang (Main Award) and ITZY won Discovery of the Year.

Lee Chae Yeon said, “To be honest, we didn’t even have a chance to meet on music shows, so I’m happy to see her here at this event.” Chaeryeong added, “There really weren’t very many chances for us to meet in 2019 and at the start of 2020, so we would talk through video calls instead. I missed her and it’s an honor to be at the same awards show together.”

The sisters shared that both of them working as idols has brought them closer together. Lee Chae Yeon said, “We relate to each other, so we can communicate well. Our relationship seems like it’s getting deeper, and we understand each other better. I think that we’re thinking more about the other and depending on each other.”

Chaeryeong said, “I remember getting goosebumps when I saw IZ*ONE come out on stage at an awards show last year. Their fans were cheering so loud. At the time, [ITZY’s] fans didn’t have light sticks, and IZ*ONE has a lot more members than we do, so it felt like we were watching someone who was completely different from us. My sister is someone who is as steady as a rock. There’s always something I can learn from her. She spurs me on to become like her.”

Asked to describe the other, Lee chae Yeon said, “Chaeryeong is much calmer and quieter than me. I like that she reacts well to whatever I do or say. I think that she really shines on stage. She has soft lines and great expression.” Chaeryeong said, “She is a really fun person even in private life. She’s really funny and she has her own kind of innocence. She laughs a lot and gives great energy to the people around her.”

The sisters also shared their goals for 2021. Chaeryeong said, “I’m going to work hard in 2021. I’m going to be ambitious and if I get the chance, I’m going to work on myself and improve.” Lee Chae Yeon said, “I also want to grow in various areas while staying healthy.” Both concluded, “We hope that everyone will stay healthy, that the people we love will be healthy and happy. Happy New Year, everyone!”

Lee Chae Yeon and Chaeryeong are a year apart in age, with Lee Chae Yeon being born in 2000 and Chaeryeong being born in 2001. Both sisters appeared as contestants on “K-Pop Star 3” and were recruited as JYP Entertainment trainees, later appearing on the show “SIXTEEN.” Lee Chae Yeon eventually left JYP and joined WM Entertainment, representing the agency on Mnet’s “Produce 48” and debuting as part of IZ*ONE. Chaeryeong remained at JYP and debuted as part of ITZY.
