"River Where The Moon Rises" Writer Talks About Casting Decisions And Developing The Historical Drama
The scriptwriter for the upcoming drama “River Where the Moon Rises” shared his thoughts on the cast!
KBS 2TV’s new Monday-Tuesday drama “River Where the Moon Rises” will put a twist on the classic Goguryeo folk tale of Princess Pyeonggang (Kim So Hyun) and General On Dal’s (Ji Soo’s) passionate love story. The two youthful spirits will protect their love at all costs, regardless of what their fates hold for them, and in the process warm the hearts of the audience.
Scriptwriter Han Ji Hoon is also known for writing “Time Between Dog and Wolf,” “Dr. Jin,” and “Woman of 9.9 Billion.” The writer shared, “I had the desire to one day dramatize the story of Princess Pyeonggang and the fool On Dal, which I read as a picture book when I was young.” He explained, “I was charmed because it’s simultaneously a beautiful love story that overcomes differences in social status and also an interesting and successful hero story. I wanted to paint Pyeonggang and On Dal’s story that everyone knew but also didn’t know.”
Writer Han Ji Hoon also explained that much of the story of Pyeonggang and On Dal in the historical records were missing. He elaborated, “The princess marries the fool, then the fool suddenly becomes a general. I imagined the connecting links between the unlikely incidents, filled in the gaps, and made it more dramatic.” He added, “I used the folk tale as groundwork, but much of it was produced by imagination. I’ll leave the fun of finding those differences to the viewers.”
Regarding the casting of the actors for the roles of Pyeonggang and On Dal, scriptwriter Han Ji Hoon shared, “It’s the most ideal casting I’ve imagined. If I put it into numbers, they’re 120 percent in sync with their roles.”
The writer continued, “Actress Kim So Hyun has to showcase various sides of herself as a warrior and princess, but she created a Pyeonggang of her own in no time with her captivating atmosphere and talented acting. Actor Ji Soo has the perfect visuals and physical appearance for the naïve and honest—and sometimes reckless—On Dal. I’m anticipating the characters, who will come to life with the two actors’ charms, will create great chemistry.”
“River Where the Moon Rises” will premiere on February 15 at 9:30 p.m. KST.
