Kwon Nara Talks About Having A Lot In Common With Kim Myung Soo, Tackling Her First Historical Drama Role, And More

Kwon Nara recently sat down for a series of interviews about her drama “Royal Secret Agent.”

“Royal Secret Agent” starred Kim Myung Soo, Kwon Nara, and Lee Yi Kyung in a story about a secret royal inspector who goes undercover in the provinces to bring justice, uncover corruption, and solve the people’s problems.

In an interview with Xportsnews, Kwon Nara said that the three lead actors had got along very well on set. “There were a lot of times when we’d burst into real laughter while filming,” she said. “I was in charge of reacting to the others’ jokes. Each of us had our role. Kim Myung Soo was the hype man, while Lee Yi Kyung was like that final spice that would get us cracking up from time to time. Kim Myung Soo likes to sing, so he sang a lot on set.”

She added that she had had a lot in common with Kim Myung Soo. “Both of us were singers and we’ve even stood on the same stage before,” she said. “Also, we have the same birthday. Since he has a ‘fast’ birthday, we’re even the same age. I think having those points in common helped us become closer faster. He’s good at acting and he’s also very respectful toward others. I thought often that he was a warm-hearted friend.”

(Kwon Nara was born on March 13, 1991, while Kim Myung Soo was born on March 13, 1992. In South Korea, students start the school year in March, so those born between January and March are sometimes considered as having “fast birthdays” and being the “same age” as those technically born a year before.)

In an interview with SPOTV News, she mentioned Kim Myung Soo’s upcoming enlistment in the Marines. “I’ve never been to the military, but Lee Yi Kyung had a lot of advice for him on set,” she shared. “I told him that I would visit him if the situation improved, and if the drama cast and crew couldn’t go together, then I’d go alone on our birthday. But he said that he’d still be in training at that time and couldn’t have visitors. If COVID-19 ends, I’d like to go visit him with all the actors from the drama together.”

In an interview with Sports Chosun, Kwon Nara talked about taking on her first historical drama role. “There were lots of things that are different about a historical drama, such as the atmosphere on set and the hair and makeup,” she said. “I think I tried all the hairstyles that a woman could do in a historical drama. The clothes are obvious, but the atmosphere itself was quite different from a modern drama. But I didn’t put too much emphasis on the speech. I just wanted to express Da In as much as possible.”

She added, “I’ve always had to film in the winter, but this was the first time that I’d felt this cold. It’s a historical drama, so I had to wear tight female hanbok and I felt the cold more. I could wear several layers of clothes under the skirts, so that was fine, but I could only wear one layer under the top, so it was really cold. I learned that it’s really hard to film in the winter. But the production staff took really great care of me. That’s why I’ll remember this as a really warm-hearted production.”

Kwon Nara also mentioned that the friendship between the Hello Venus members is still going strong. “I still remember how dependable it felt to have them with me,” she said. “We can’t meet often now due to COVID-19, but we still talk in the group chat and do video calls with each other. We talk often about how precious it felt when we were all together. In the past, I would think a lot about what I wanted to be, how the public saw me, and what the public wanted me to be. I think that my goal now is to show different sides of me through various diverse projects.”
