Hwang In Yeop Shares His Thoughts On Love Triangles, Being Ambidextrous, And More

Hwang In Yeop recently shot a pictorial for the magazine W Korea!

In the accompanying interview, the actor talked about the differences between “True Beauty” and his real school life, his broad range of skills (including ambidexterity), and his thoughts on love triangles like the one his character Han Seo Jun was involved in.

When the interviewer asked what kind of words he heard most often now, Hwang In Yeop replied, “‘I’m Team Seo Jun.’ I had no idea so many people were on Team Seo Jun. When I go out to eat, or even when I’m wearing a mask on the street, people see my piercings and go, ‘Oh, it’s Seo Jun.’ I can’t escape from Han Seo Jun. Filming ended last week [at the time of the interview]. Including the audition period, I spent about nine months as Seo Jun.”

Hwang In Yeop, who graduated from high school 10 years ago, compared his own school life to the one his character experienced in “True Beauty.” He said, “The length of the school uniforms and the hair has changed. Because of the strict rules about hair, I’ve never grown out my hair or dyed it before. But kids in their teens now are vocal about what they want to do and use social media freely too.”

Asked what kind of student he was, he said, “I didn’t like studying. In middle school, I said immature stuff to my mom like, ‘If I work as a model and run my own shopping mall, can’t I just not go to university?’ My mom told me to investigate that idea for a month so I remember working at a clothing shop and going around Dongdaemun. Even though I was so immature, my mom bought me magazines and showed me her support, and that’s how I was able to become a model.”

Hwang In Yeop showed that he still hadn’t gotten out of his character’s headspace when he said, “If it was me, I wouldn’t have lost my chance with Ju Gyeong. I wouldn’t have just hovered around her for two years.” Asked what time he would have chosen to confess, he said, “When Su Ho suddenly disappeared for two years. Wouldn’t it be okay after a year had passed?” The interviewer said, “Even though it’s your friend’s girlfriend, he would’ve understood if a year had passed,” and Hwang In Yeop replied, “Because he broke up with her first! Whew, it’s too obvious that I haven’t broken free of Han Seo Jun yet.”

The actor then shared his thoughts on love triangles, saying, “I think that if you choose friendship, you will only lose love, but if you choose love, you have to be prepared to lose both.”

In “True Beauty,” Hwang In Yeop shows a variety of skills like singing, skating, and riding a motorcycle. He said, “I got a motorcycle license for the drama. I’ve never ridden one before, so I got coaching from an agency staff member who’s a motorcycle maniac.” About his singing, he said, “In school, reaching high notes was the mark of a good singer. That’s why I thought I was far from being a good singer. But through this drama I learned that it’s okay to sing in a calmer voice as well.” He added that he had learned how to skate for about two years when he was a kid and said, “It wasn’t even an ice rink, but water poured on the field. I had no idea that I’d be able to use what I learned then.” The actor also shared that he has learned taekwondohapkido, skating, swimming, skiing, and kendo!

The interviewer brought up the fact that fans were curious about how he ate with his left hand but wrote with his right hand. Hwang In Yeop said, “When I was a kid, I did everything with my left hand. My parents wanted me to at least write and kick with my right side, so I started to change that. When I throw a ball, when I eat food, I usually use my left hand. I write with my right hand, I kick with my right foot. I can use scissors on both hands. But this is something that only my close friends know! I like questions like this, please ask more.”
