MAMAMOO's Wheein Talks About Getting Inspiration From Her Cat And Her Fans For New Solo Album "Redd"
MAMAMOO’s Wheein recently participated in an interview for the release of “Redd,” her first solo mini album.
Wheein has released solo singles before, but this is her first mini album since her debut. She said, “If my previous singles were more poised and emotional, then this time I tried to show more diverse sides and express my own color. Like the title track, ‘water color,’ implies, I’m trying to color my transparent self. It’s a song about myself.”
Asked to pick her favorite b-side track on the album, she said, “When I was writing ‘OHOO’ and ‘Springtime,’ I had my pet cat and my fans in mind while working on the lyrics and melody. That’s why I can’t help but feel affection for those songs.” She added in more detail, “I wrote the lyrics for ‘OHOO’ about three or four years ago. I was looking at my cat, who was staring out the window, and I wondered what he was thinking about. That was the inspiration behind the song. ‘Springtime’ is a song I wrote as a letter to my fans. I promised them on my birthday that I would be their eternal spring.”
Wheein collaborated with pH-1 and G.Soul on the b-sides “Trash” and “Butterfly.” She said, “I’m a big fan of their music. I thought that their voices would suit the atmosphere of the songs and match well with my own vocal color, so I asked them, and I’m grateful and honored that they agreed so readily. I am extremely satisfied with the results.”
