CN ENM are launching a K-pop audition program in South America!
On May 6, CJ ENM confirmed that they were working with Warner Media’s over-the-top (OTT) media service HBO Max and global producer Endemol Shine Boomdog to plan and develop a K-pop audition program in South America. CJ ENM is the first Korean company to create an audition program for South America.
HBO Max was launched in 2020, and after experiencing rapid growth, is now aiming to move into the Latin American market in June. Endemol Shine Boomdog is a production company based in Mexico and the Spanish-language division of Endemol Shine.
This project will be planned and produced in Korea by Mnet producers and contestants from South America will be able to audition. The program plans to have both K-pop artists and South American stars as judges. The goal is to combine Mnet’s ability to plan and develop audition programs with global producer Endemol Shine Boomdog in order to create content that accurately captures South America. If the program is successfully broadcasted, a K-pop boy group will be created in South America.
South America is seen as a place with high growth potential for the entertainment industry due to their young median age of 31 years old. Additionally, according to the 2019 IFPI Music Global Report, the annual average growth rate for the South American music industry was 18.9 percent, which is much higher than the global average of 8.2 percent. As the majority of South Americans speak Spanish, the second most-spoken language in the world, success in the continent is expected to lead to advances globally.
A representative of CJ ENM shared, “This collaboration with HBO Max and Endemol Shine Boomdog can be seen as a recognition of CJ ENM’s content production capabilities on a global market scale. With our planning and production abilities, we are aiming to use this collaboration for an audition program that captures the traits of K-pop and K-content as well as the local characteristics of South America.”
