First to perform was Swings, the newest member of P Nation, who covered “Champion.” He said, “PSY’s ‘Champion’ was meant for the people, but my version of ‘Champion’ is about self-love. I went into hip-hop without a cent to my name and fought until I got to where I am now. I think that you’re the champion of your own life. You’re the only one you’re competing against.”
Next to perform was singer-songwriter Kim Feel, who covered “Place to Lean On” (“Refuge”). PSY praised his performance and said, “I feel like I’ve met the true owner of the song. I choked up while listening.” Shin Dong Yup commented that although many people remember PSY as a producer and singer of upbeat music, he has also produced many ballads, including Lee Seung Gi’s “Because You’re My Woman.”
Kim Feel won the round against Swings, and next to perform was Jessi, who said that she would put on a fun performance for PSY, who has not been able to hold concerts due to the pandemic. She covered “I LUV IT,” which PSY explained that he had written during a slump. “I wasn’t in a slump as a singer, but as a producer,” he said. “Whatever I made seemed bad. The music trends had also changed a lot since I had debuted. Starting with that album, I began working with a lot of younger musicians like Zico, G-Dragon, and Taeyang.”
Jessi won the round against Kim Feel and next to perform was ATEEZ. Even before they performed, PSY had said, “I’m really curious about ATEEZ singing one of my songs. ATEEZ is said to be one of the best performers right now.” ATEEZ covered “Right Now,” and PSY praised, “All my junior artists do their best, but ATEEZ’s specialty is that they work hard and do well. They’re the next-generation K-pop leaders.”
ATEEZ won the round against Jessi, and Heize and Giriboy were the last to perform with “What Would Have Been,” a duet that PSY had sang with Lena Park. In the end, ATEEZ held on to their lead and took the final win on the show.
