BTS's 'Butter' Breaks Oricon Record For Most Streams In 1st Week + Tops Weekly Charts

BTS’s “Butter” continues to sweep records as it rises to the top of Oricon’s weekly charts in Japan!

On May 26, Oricon reported that BTS’s “Butter” had placed No. 1 on the weekly digital singles chart and weekly streaming chart for the week of May 17 to 23.

Since its release on May 21, “Butter” garnered a total of 52,821 downloads in a span of three days, placing the song at the top of the weekly digital singles chart. This is BTS’s second time ranking No. 1 on the chart following the release of “Film Out” in April 2. “Film Out” will also be the title track for BTS’s upcoming Japanese compilation album “BTS, The Best,” which will be out on June 16.

“Butter” also defended its No. 1 spot on Oricon’s daily digital singles chart for the third consecutive day since its release. Furthermore, the song was played a total of 16,607,136 times over those three days, placing it at the top of the weekly streaming chart on its first week of release. This is the greatest number of plays recorded in the first week of a song’s release in Oricon history.

BTS previously topped the weekly streaming chart with “Dynamite” (chart dated September 7, 2020) and “Film Out” (chart dated April 19, 2021), so BTS has set a new record of having three consecutive songs achieving over 10 million streams within a week. Even if the songs hadn’t been consecutive releases, BTS is the only artist in Oricon history to achieve over 10 million streams during a single week for at least three songs.

Following its release, “Butter” has been dominating iTunes charts all over the world, while its music video has been smashing records left and right on YouTube.  On Spotify, “Butter” racked up an impressive 11,042,335 streams on its first day, achieving the highest number of first-day streams for any song in Spotify history.

Congratulations to BTS!
