BTS Officially Breaks 5 Guinness World Records With "Butter"
BTS has officially set five new Guinness World Records with their latest single “Butter“!
On May 25 local time, Guinness World Records announced that they had officially recognized five records recently broken by BTS’s new single.
Not only did BTS’s “Butter” break the world record for “the most viewers for the premiere of a music video on YouTube,” as YouTube previously confirmed, but it has also broken the record for “the most viewers for the premiere of [any] video on YouTube.” The premiere for the music video for “Butter” drew 3.9 million concurrent viewers at its peak on YouTube, breaking the previous record set by BTS’s own “Dynamite” last year.
Additionally, not only did “Butter” break the world record for “the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group,” but it also broke the overall record for “the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours” by any artist. According to YouTube’s official figures, the music video for “Butter” racked up 108.2 million views in the first 24 hours of its release.
Finally, Guinness World Records has officially recognized that “Butter” has broken the world record for “the most streamed track on Spotify in the first 24 hours.” According to Spotify’s official figures, “Butter” was streamed 11,042,335 times in the first 24 hours of its release, breaking the previous record of 10.977 million streams set by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s 2019 hit “I Don’t Care.”
With these latest achievements, BTS now holds an impressive total of 23 Guinness World Records. Last month, BTS overtook Coldplay to break the world record for “the most streamed group on Spotify” with a combined 16.3 billion streams as of April 27. (At the time, Coldplay had amassed a total of 16.1 billion streams.)
Earlier this year, BTS also earned Guinness World Records for “the most weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales Chart”—after “Dynamite” spent its 18th non-consecutive week at the top of the chart—and “the most Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards won by a music group” (tied with Fifth Harmony at five wins each).
Congratulations to BTS on their new Guinness World Records!
