tvN Shares Detailed Drama Lineup For 2nd Half Of 2021
tvN has released their drama lineup for the remainder of 2021!
In 2020, tvN attracted a wide global audience with their hit dramas “Crash Landing on You” and “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.” On top of that, they gained more attention with 2021 dramas “Vincenzo,” “Mouse,” and “Navillera.”
Last month, “Vincenzo” concluded with the sixth highest ratings in tvN history and topped Netflix’s Top 10 charts in countries all over Asia. tvN’s “Mouse” also finished in late May with the fifth highest ratings for all tvN Wednesday-Thursday dramas.
Currently, tvN is airing “Mine,” “Doom at Your Service,” and “My Roommate Is a Gumiho.”
“Mine” stars Lee Bo Young and Kim Seo Hyung as two strong and ambitious women who overcome society’s prejudices to discover what is truly theirs. Lee Bo Young plays Seo Hee Soo, a former top actress and the wife of the second son of the chaebol family Hyowon Group. Kim Seo Hyung plays Jung Seo Hyun, the elegant and well-born wife of the eldest son of Hyowon Group. Cha Hak Yeon plays Jung Seo Hyun’s son Han Soo Hyuk. With its latest episode, “Mine” achieved its highest viewership ratings for the third consecutive episode.
Fantasy romance drama “Doom at Your Service” stars Seo In Guk as Myul Mang, a character who causes everything he touches to vanish, and Park Bo Young as Tak Dong Kyung, who puts her life on the line to avoid her fate. After going through life without any grand goals, Tak Dong Kyung suddenly receives the diagnosis that she only has 100 days to live. She calls for doom (myulmang) of the entire world, but instead is found by Myul Mang.
“Doom at Your Service” has steadily been gaining popularity all over the globe with pre-sales in 150 countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Japan, as well as in North and South America and Europe.
tvN’s latest premiere was “My Roommate Is a Gumiho” which stars Jang Ki Yong and Girl’s Day’s Hyeri. Based on a popular webtoon, “My Roommate Is a Gumiho” is a romantic comedy about a 22-year-old college student named Lee Dam (Hyeri), who accidentally swallows the marble of a 999-year-old male gumiho (a mythological nine-tailed fox) named Shin Woo Yeo (Jang Ki Yong), who was close to achieving his goal of becoming human.
Coming up on tvN is “Hospital Playlist 2” on June 17 and “Voice 4” on June 18. Scheduled for July are “The Devil Judge” and “You Are My Spring” (literal title). Upcoming shows without premiere dates include “The Road: The Tragedy of One,” “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” (literal title), “High Class,” “Yumi’s Cells” (literal title), “Jirisan,” “Royal Secret Inspector Joy,” and “Bulgasal” (literal title).
First up is “Hospital Playlist 2” which premieres on June 17 at 9 p.m. KST. In the second season of the hit drama, Jo Jung Suk, Jung Kyung Ho, Yoo Yeon Seok, Jeon Mi Do, and Kim Dae Myung return as five doctors who first met in medical school and have been friends ever since. Director Shin Won Ho shared, “We’ll draw out an ordinary life in a more warm and dense way.” Watch a teaser here!
“Voice” revolves around an emergency call center and the employees who fight crime using the limited information they get from the urgent calls they receive. After premiering its first season in 2017, the upcoming fourth season will pit the Golden Time Team against a vicious murderer with extraordinary hearing abilities that rival their own.
Lee Ha Na will be reprising her role as life-saving voice profiler Kang Kwon Joo, while Song Seung Heon will join the cast as new character Derek Jo, a unit leader at the LAPD who winds up collaborating with the Golden Time Team. “Voice 4” premieres on June 18 at 10:50 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki with English subtitles! “The Devil Judge” is set in an imaginary dystopian Korea and aims to share a message about justice through a live broadcast courtroom show in which the entire nation participates in a trial. The drama stars Ji Sung as Kang Yo Han, a head trial judge who wears legal robes in order to hunt down villains.
Kim Min Jung plays Jung Sun Ah, Kang Yo Han’s greatest rival and the executive director of a CSR (corporate social responsibility) foundation. GOT7’s Jinyoung will play Kim Ga On, an associate trial judge who shines as the one ray of hope in a dystopian world. Park Gyu Young will transform into Yoon Soo Hyun, Kim Ga On’s childhood friend, potential love interest, and a police detective in a regional investigation unit who is on the hunt for Kang Yo Han’s secrets. “The Devil Judge” will be available to watch on Viki with English subtitles. “You Are My Spring” (literal title) is a healing romance drama starring Seo Hyun Jin and Kim Dong Wook. The drama follows the stories of people living in a building where a murder previously took place as they go about their adult lives with their seven-year-old selves in their hearts. Seo Hyun Jin plays Kang Da Jung, a hotel concierge manager who moves to the building for a fresh start but ends up confronting her childhood memories. Kim Dong Wook co-stars as Joo Young Do, a psychiatrist who helps others with their emotional wounds but hasn’t been able to heal his own. Behind his smart and impressive outwardly appearance, he hides his true clumsy personality.
Yoon Park will play Chae Joon, the head of an investment company who suddenly appears in front of Kang Da Jung one day and seems to understand her perfectly. Nam Gyu Ri will portray Ahn Ga Young, an actress who has become fearful of love after being hurt by her manager, who was also her boyfriend. Watch a teaser here!
“The Road: The Tragedy of One” draws the story of terrible ambitions, secrets, guilt, and salvation surrounding “Royal the Hills,” the place of residence for the top 1 percent of Korean society. Ji Jin Hee stars as Baek Soo Hyun, a national news anchor who is trusted by the public. Yoon Se Ah plays his wife Seo Eun Soo, who is also the daughter of the Je Kang Group chairman, who controls Korea’s political world. Kim Hye Eun will play Cha Seo Young, a newsroom announcer.
“Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” is a healing romance drama that focuses on the stories of those living in the seashore village Gongjin. The show stars Shin Min Ah as logical dentist Yoon Hye Jin, a woman who appears to have it all but feels empty inside. After moving to Gongjin, she meets Hong Doo Shik, played by Kim Seon Ho, who is known as Mr. Hong around town. Although he’s technically unemployed, Mr. Hong is an expert at odd jobs, helping everyone in Gongjin.
“High Class” is a mystery suspense drama about the dangerous lies and hypocrisies hidden behind the perfect lives of the women who live in the top 0.1 percent of society and is set at an international school on a paradise-like island. Jo Yeo Jeong stars as the lawyer Song Yeo Wool, who loses everything when she is framed for her husband’s murder. While she escapes to this island after the incident, she remains an outsider. Kim Ji Soo stars as Nam Ji Sun, the “queen bee” among the mothers at the international school where Song Yeo Wool’s son attends. The mystery begins when Song Yeo Wool meets the mother of her son’s classmate, who is the woman her husband had an affair with before he was murdered.
The drama also stars Ha Jun as Danny Oh, a former ice hockey player and current teacher. Park Se Jin plays Hwang Na Yoon, a single mom who is the only one who reaches out to Song Yeo Wool. Gong Hyun Joo appears as former top actress Cha Do Young who follows Nam Ji Sun around because she wants to be back in the spotlight. Lee Ga Eun plays Rachel Jo, a teacher who grew up in Canada with an incredibly strict balance between work and leisure.
Based on the hit webtoon of the same name, “Yumi’s Cells” will tell the story of ordinary office worker Yumi, played by Kim Go Eun, from the point of view of the many brain cells in her head controlling her every thought, feeling, and action. After her last relationship failed, Yumi’s love cell falls into a coma from the shock and her other cells must work to wake it up. Ahn Bo Hyun co-stars as game developer Goo Woong who falls in love with Yumi at first sight. With his honest and simple charms, he’ll wake up Yumi’s love cell. Lee Yoo Bi will play Ruby, Yumi’s office junior, and Park Ji Hyun will play Goo Woong’s colleague and popular friend Sae Yi.
“Jirisan” is a mystery drama about people who climb through the mysterious and unexplored regions of Mount Jiri, the largest mountain on the South Korean mainland. It is a collaboration between writer Kim Eun Hee (“Kingdom,” “Signal“) and director Lee Eung Bok (“Mr. Sunshine,” “Goblin,” “Descendants of the Sun“). The drama stars Jun Ji Hyun and Joo Ji Hoon as Seo Yi Kang and Kang Hyun Jo respectively. Seo Yi Kang is a top ranger at Mount Jiri National Park and Kang Hyun Jo is her rookie partner.
“Royal Secret Inspector Joy” is a historical comedy investigation drama about a young gourmet who ends up becoming a secret royal inspector (a undercover official who inspects local provinces to expose corruption) teaming up with a divorced woman who is searching for happiness. Together, they set out on a grand scheme to uncover the truth.
The drama’s key investigation duo is 2PM’s Taecyeon and Kim Hye Yoon whose lives change upon meeting each other. Taecyeon plays secret royal inspector Ra Yi Eon and Kim Hye Yoon portrays the role of Kim Jo Yi, an unconventional woman of the Joseon era who thinks divorce isn’t a big deal.
“Bulgasal” is a fantasy drama about a woman who has experienced many reincarnations over the past 600 years and remembers all her past lives and a man who is immortal, living for over 600 years as a bulgasal, a mythical creature that feeds off human blood.
Lee Jin Wook plays Dan Hwal, a bulgasal who was once a human 600 years ago. Kwon Nara plays Min Sang Woon, who was previously a bulgasal after becoming the target of Dan Hwal’s revenge when her past relationship goes sour, but who is reincarnated as a human. Lee Joon portrays Ok Eul Tae, a bulgasal living in secrecy who uses his wealth to help those in need and control politicians. Gong Seung Yeon plays Dan Sol, Dan Hwal’s past wife. Other cast members include Jung Jin Young, Park Myung Shin, and UP10TION‘s Kim Woo Seok.
