Ravi Apologizes To Red Velvet Regarding New Song Lyrics + To Remove Song From Music Sites
Ravi has apologized for lyrics in a song from his new album.
On June 3, the VIXX member released his new album “ROSES,” which includes a song titled “RED VELVET.” Many expressed discomfort at the lyrics such as “I take a bite out of a red velvet” as other lyrics such as “Russian Roulette” and “Dumb Dumb” seem to reference the group Red Velvet’s song titles. The lyrics also include parts that seem to use wordplay with names of the group’s members.
In response, Ravi released the following statement on June 4:
Hello, this is Ravi.
I would like to speak about the controversy regarding a B-side track on my new album “ROSES.”
First of all, I sincerely apologize to the agency staff and members of the group Red Velvet that was mentioned in the lyrics. I also apologize to the many fans who watch over me. I am sorry that this apology is being made late when I should have apologized quickly.
I thought a lot about the order of taking responsibility for this issue, and today (June 4), I apologized directly to the members and staff through a phone call via Red Velvet’s agency. Of course, I feel responsibility and am apologetic for even creating this kind of situation in the first place.
I am reflecting on myself for being careless about this incident not just as Ravi but also as someone in charge of the label GROOVL1N. To my shame, I did not realize myself while working on the production that the content of the lyrics could cause discomfort to many people.
This was a song aiming to express sweet and bright energy, but because a specific group was mentioned, I think I hold responsibility, as the person who wrote the lyrics, for the emotions felt by the artists and their fans.
As a result, I decided to remove the song from all music sites after discussion with the distribution company. It could take some time, but I will have it resolved as soon as possible. In addition, I will always work on producing carefully in the future, thinking everything over several times.
I once again apologize to the many people who were disappointed in me due to this incident, and I will work to impress in the future without disappointing you.
Thank you.
