Park Ji Hoon Talks About "Produce 101," Missing Wanna One, His Acting Role Models, And More
The latest issue of W Korea features Park Ji Hoon!
The star reflected on his time on “Produce 101,” commenting that at the time he was only 19 years old [in Korean age] and is now already 23. When rewatching clips from the show, Park Ji Hoon shared that he thinks, “It must’ve been difficult” and “I worked hard.” He continued, “I recently looked up a lot of old videos. I can see how hard I’m working. It felt like you could see my determination in my eyes.”
Park Ji Hoon also described his character Yeo Joon from his current drama “At a Distance Spring is Green.” He shared, “There’s always a lot of people around him and he looks popular, but he doesn’t have any true friends. He also has childhood trauma. Due to that trauma, he begins living on his own. Since that’s an important part of the story, I can’t share too many details, but he’s a character who’s been hurt. He’s cheerful when he’s with others but when he’s alone at home, he’s dark and likes to curl up.”
He shared his own similar experience, explaining, “While talking to the director, I shared that [Yeo Joon] has aspects similar to me. Although I’m always smiling in front of my fans, I can’t always be smiling. When I’m alone, I do feel a kind of emptiness.”
Regarding his role models, Park Ji Hoon shared, “Since I experience changes, my role model also changes. The ones I’m thinking of now are Jo Jin Woong and Jo Jung Suk. Rather than acting, they have their own way of naturally appearing as their character.”
After the disbandment of Wanna One, Park Ji Hoon began promoting solo in 2019. When asked whether he felt comfortable doing so, Park Ji Hoon answered, “At first, there were difficult aspects. Trying to do it alone after laughing and chatting with so many members…”
The interviewer noted his changed expression and Park Ji Hoon continued, “It wasn’t difficult to the point where I thought, ‘I can’t do this on my own.’ It was just difficult because those who were once with me were no longer there. For awhile, they were with me for longer than my family, so once they were suddenly gone, I couldn’t help but constantly think of them.”
Lastly, Park Ji Hoon explained his mindset, sharing, “Just because I release music, I don’t make a goal of wanting to sell X amount or wanting to reach certain achievements. I think that just burdens fans. I feel the same way for dramas. So no matter what I do, I don’t focus on the response or feedback, I just do well myself. I do my best in the preparation stage, and then I enjoy myself while showcasing that.”
For his concluding words, Park Ji Hoon commented, “Although Gong Ju Young of ‘Love Revolution‘ was cute, Yeo Joon of ‘At a Distance Spring is Green’ is not just cute.”
