VIXX's Hyuk Speaks Out Against Drunk Driving After Losing His Cousin In DUI Incident
VIXX’s Hyuk has shared a deeply personal message speaking out against drunk driving.
On June 23, Hyuk shared on his Instagram account the message, “Let’s never drink and drive.”
According to his agency, Jellyfish Entertainment, Hyuk lost a close younger cousin of his in a drunk driving incident last year. The cousin was the victim of a driver who violated traffic signals while driving under the influence of alcohol. Another cousin of Hyuk’s shared a post on the government petition website to ask for more severe punishments for drunk drivers.
According to the family of the deceased, the driver in the fatal drunk driving incident received a prison sentence of three years at the beginning of this year. The family released a statement that said, “Even though the defendant had a blood alcohol level of 0.124, which is well over the limit to get one’s license suspended, the court only pronounced judgment on the charge of violating traffic signals. Even though the prosecution requested a seven-year prison sentence because it was a DUI, the court lowered it to three years because they said the defendant was repenting.”
The statement continued, “Drunk driving incidents are on the rise, but right now the most severe prison sentence is eight years. There are many unfortunate people who have lost their lives. Even right now, there are people who are drunk driving while ignoring both common sense and the law. We sincerely hope that there are no longer any victims from these people.”
