On July 10, KBS’s “Immortal Songs” held a “Summer Gayo Daejeon” special with guests from “Gayo Top 10” and “Music Bank.” “Gayo Top 10” was a televised music rankings show that aired from 1981 to 1998, preceding the current KBS music show “Music Bank.”

The summer special will be split into two parts, with the full lineup of performers being Hyun Jin Young, Goo Jun Yeop (DJ Koo), Park Sang Min, Lee Ki Chan, Hong Kyung Min, and NRG on the “Gayo Top 10” team, and Go Yoo Jin, 2AM’s Changmin, Shin Seung Tae & Jaeha, N.Flying, HYNN, and WEi on the “Music Bank” team.
The first match-up was between Park Sang Min and WEi. Park Sang Min said that he had made his debut in 1993 and the members of WEi shocked him by revealing that none of them had been born at that time. Jang Daehyeon is the oldest member of WEi, born in 1997, and Park Sang Min observed, “I’d just gotten out of the military then.” WEi also showed their competitive streak by saying, “Our leader [Jang Daehyeon] says that if we don’t win at least once, he’ll quit being the leader.”
For their performance, WEi covered Seven’s “Passion,” showcasing perfect synchronization in a powerful performance about love.
Park Sang Min sang Yoo Jae Ha’s “You In My Arms” with his trademark husky vocals. In the end, WEi won the round and the members shared, “It’s our first time winning in any competition.”
Later, they lost to Hyun Jin Young, and the overall win for Part 1 was taken by 2AM’s Changmin, who sang Lim Chang Jung’s “Dancing with Wolves.”
