BTS Meal Helps Boost McDonald's Worldwide Sales By 41 Percent In 2nd Quarter Of 2021
McDonald’s saw an impressive rise in earnings this past quarter!
On July 28 local time, McDonald’s officially revealed its financial performance for the second quarter of 2021 (April to June). Compared to the same quarter in 2020, the fast food chain’s worldwide revenue rose by an impressive 57 percent to nearly $5.9 billion.
McDonald’s also reported that its global same-store sales rose by an impressive 40.5 percent compared to 2020. Even when compared to the second quarter of 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the chain’s sales plunged, global same-store sales still saw an increase of 6.9 percent.
Within the United States only, same-store sales rose by 25.9 percent compared to last year and 14.9 percent compared to 2019.
While multiple factors contributed to the boost in earnings, analysts agree that the “BTS Meal“—a limited-edition meal designed according to BTS’s preferences that was made available in 50 markets all over the world—played an important role in the increase.
McDonald’s remarked, “The BTS Meal drove visits to our restaurants and significant lifts in Chicken McNuggets sales—one of our core menu items.”
McDonald’s Korea previously revealed that in the first four weeks of the BTS Meal’s launch, Chicken McNuggets sales jumped 250 percent compared to the previous four weeks.
