Idol Rapper And Singer Shares Why "The King Of Mask Singer" Holds Special Meaning For His Group

On the August 15 episode of MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer,” four contestants vied with each other for the chance to challenge the reigning champion for the crown.

The first match-up of Round 2 was between Nightmare and Pineapple. Nightmare sang “Trap of Youth,” the OST from the 1999 drama of the same name, and Pineapple covered Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi’s “Monster.”

The panelists speculated that Pineapple was an idol and he showed off his dance skills to STAYC’s “ASAP.” Sandara Park observed, “I think he is an idol. He seems like he was recently discharged from the military. He has a lot of power.”

Nightmare won Round 2 and moved to the next round, while Pineapple unmasked to reveal himself as BTOB’s Minhyuk. He said, “We were unknown idols for about four years after our debut. It was during this really tough time that one of our members, Yook Sungjae, appeared on ‘The King of Mask Singer’ and garnered a lot of attention.”

He continued, “After that, a lot of our members came on the show and Eunkwang, Changsub, and Hyunsik all received a lot of love on the show. We were even able to get No. 1 on the music charts for the first time. This is a show that we’re all very grateful for.”

Minhyuk also revealed that he had directly arranged the song he performed on this episode and said, “I’m always working on writing and producing songs for the group. I want to let more people know about that side of me, so I took on that challenge today.”

The rapper and singer concluded, “BTOB is approaching our tenth anniversary. This is something that a lot of teams say, but we really want to be a long-running team like Shinhwa or the recently returned 2PM. My dream is to keep making music as BTOB as well as working hard on my solo career and putting my name out there.”
