Watch: "Girls Planet 999" Contestants Compete In Cover Battle Of BLACKPINK And TWICE

On the August 20 episode of Mnet’s “Girls Planet 999,” the 99 contestants split up into teams for the “Connect Mission,” where teams will battle it out in covers of hit songs by various idol groups.

The cover battle would take place in match-ups, where two or three teams would go head-to-head in covering the same song. The winner and the loser of the match-up would be decided by the masters. The winning teams would receive double or triple the amount of global votes sent in by fans, and the overall best-performing team selected by the masters would perform on “M Countdown.” The votes from the fans (referred to as the “planet guardians”) would also determine the 48 contestants to be eliminated from the show.

The first match-up featured two teams performing TWICE’s “YES or YES.” Team 1 was composed of Ma Yu Ling, Kim Hye Rim, Okuma Sumomo, Li Yiman, Kim Chae Hyun, Kuwahara Ayana, Chia Yi, Huh Ji Won, and Yamauchi Moana. Team 2 was composed of Wen Zhe, Kim Se In, Okazaki Momoko, Leung Cheuk Ying, Lee Chae Yun, Kishida Ririka, Xu Zi Yin, Kim Do Ah, and Arai Risako. In the end, Team 1 won the matchup.

The second match-up featured two teams performing BLACKPINK’s “How You Like That.” Team 1 was composed of Cai Bing, Choi Yu Jin, May, Xia Yan, Lee Yeon Gyung, Inaba Vivienne, Shen Xiao Ting, Seo Young Eun, and Kawaguchi Yurina. Team 2 was composed of Zhou Xin Yu, Yoon Ji A, Shima Moka, Chien Tzu Ling, Sim Seung Eun, Ando Rinka, Wu Tammy, Kim Da Yeon, and Sakurai Miu. Team 1 won this match-up as well.
