BLACKPINK's Lisa Dishes On Her Solo Debut Track, Bandmates' Support, & Revealing Her Forehead For 1st Time
BLACKPINK’s Lisa has shared her thoughts on her highly-anticipated solo debut!
On September 10, Lisa held an online press conference several hours before the release of her first solo mini album “LALISA.” During the conference, the idol confessed that it had taken a long time to kick in that she was finally making her long-awaited solo debut.
“I keep feeling nervous, and I still can’t believe it,” said Lisa. “Even when I was practicing the choreography, I wasn’t sure whether it was actually happening, but when I filmed the music video, it finally started to feel real.”
“I’m delighted to be able to show my first solo performance, and I hope that BLINKs [BLACKPINK’s fans] will look kindly on it,” she continued. “Because this is my first solo album, and also because the title of the album is my name ‘Lalisa,’ it holds a lot of meaning for me. Thank you so much to the BLINKs who waited for my solo debut for a long time. I worked hard to prepare.”
As for why she had chosen to name her album “LALISA,” Lisa explained, “I wanted to show the coolest side of myself through [the album]. I wanted to show myself, Lalisa, exactly as I am, which is why I ended up using this title.”
Describing her title track—also called “Lalisa”—Lisa shared, “I think it’s a song that can really show the strength of my name and my confident side. I hope that people will hear the song and think, ‘Wow, this is it. This is something only Lisa can do.’ The choreography is also easy to dance along to, so I hope that you will have fun dancing to it.”
Lisa also mentioned that the song and its music video will include elements from her Thai heritage, explaining, “I wanted ‘Lalisa’ to have a Thai feel to it. The set and outfits also capture that Thai vibe well.”
“After I said that I wanted to include a Thai vibe, Teddy arranged the song in a Thai style, and I was so touched,” she recalled. “I really liked the way it turned out. I also wore Thai clothing in the music video. I think the results came out really pretty.”
Lisa, who is famous for her already-iconic bangs, later revealed that fans can look forward to seeing a new side of her in the album jacket for “LALISA.”
“I wanted to show a new side of myself, so I bared my forehead for the first time during my album jacket shoot,” she said. “My fans have never seen me with my forehead bared before. Because I wanted to show something new, I made up my mind and finally bared my forehead.”
As for her B-side “Money,” Lisa commented, “It’s a hip hop song that everyone can enjoy. As soon as I heard it, I really wanted to [be the one to] sing it.”
Lisa also shared that her fellow BLACKPINK members had spent hours with her on her music video set to show their support.
“Jennie and Rosé both showed great things [with their solo debuts], so I worked hard to try and show good things as well,” said Lisa. “All the other members came to my music video set to cheer me on, and they stayed with me until the wee hours of the morning. I felt so comforted by their presence.”
Lisa went on to speak about how much she missed seeing her fans in person. “It’s been so long since I’ve seen BLINKs that I sometimes look up concert videos where I was together with the fans,” she revealed. “I’m also preparing fun content, so please wait for it.”
Finally, when asked about what she hopes to achieve with her solo debut, Lisa remarked, “Rather than focusing on rankings, I hope that people will see that Lisa has this side to her as well. If I can make BLINKs happy with my songs and performances, I’m satisfied.”
Lisa’s solo mini album “LALISA” will drop on September 10 at 1 p.m. KST, and she will be performing her debut single “Lalisa” for the first time on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on September 10 ET (September 11 KST). Check out her teasers for the album here!
