Youn Yuh Jung Makes TIME's List Of 100 Most Influential People Of 2021
Actress Youn Yuh Jung has made TIME magazine’s list of “The Most Influential People of 2021”!
On September 15 local time, TIME magazine published its annual list of the 100 people deemed to have had the most influence that year, as chosen by its editors.
Youn Yuh Jung, who recently made history by sweeping the international awards circuit with her memorable performance in “Minari,” was selected for this year’s list.
The veteran actress won the Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award, and British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for Best Supporting Actress earlier this year—making her the first Korean actor ever to win an acting award at any of the three prestigious ceremonies.
Commenting on her inclusion on TIME’s list, Youn Yuh Jung humbly remarked, “It was a year where I simply did the work I always do, but I received far more praise than I deserved. I myself am still surprised by the news that I was chosen for TIME’s list of this year’s most influential people. I hope that I was someone who had a positive influence on others, and I consider it an honor to have my name included on TIME’s list of 100 influential people alongside people who are far greater than I am.”
Meanwhile, actor Steven Yeun wrote for TIME, “From navigating and breaking through societal expectations to playing fully realized (and deeply human) characters on the screen, she has forged a path that only she could have. I am a fan not just because of her acting prowess but because she has been a singularly unique presence in everything I’ve ever seen her do. For the world to know her better, following her Oscar-winning performance in our film ‘Minari,’ makes me happy for the world.”
