3 Key Storylines To Keep An Eye On In Second Half Of "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha"
tvN’s “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” moves into its second half this weekend!
“Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” is a drama set in the quiet but quirky seaside village of Gongjin about the romance between a dentist from Seoul (Shin Min Ah) and an odd-jobs expert who helps everyone around town (Kim Seon Ho). The drama has impressed viewers with its beautiful and detailed direction, the healing storyline, its unique and individual characters, and the cast’s chemistry as an ensemble.
Here are three things to keep an eye on as the drama moves into its second half:
The direction of the love triangle
In the first half of the drama, Yoon Hye Jin and Hong Doo Shik become more entangled in each other’s lives. At first, they clashed whenever they met over their differences in ideals and lifestyles, but soon their disagreements gave rise to a heart-fluttering excitement. The two attempt to overcome their “biological crisis” on the night of their drunken kiss and draw the line at being friends, but their growing feelings indicate things going in a different direction.
The two recently became even closer when Yoon Hye Jin helped Hong Doo Shik recover from a cold and Hong Doo Shik showed up in time to prevent Yoon Hye Jin being attacked by a stalker who has been roaming around town. Episode 8 ended with the two of them caught in a surprising but warm embrace.
However, the addition of Ji Sung Hyun (Lee Sang Yi), Yoon Hye Jin’s senior from university, has thrown their budding relationship for a loop. Ji Sung Hyun is in town to film a new variety show and shows an interest in kindling his old friendship with Yoon Hye Jin into something more. On the other hand, Ji Sung Hyun and Hong Doo Shik also show an oddball, endearing bromance. After Ji Sung Hyun asks Hong Doo Shik if Yoon Hye Jin is seeing anyone, a slight tension creeps into the two men’s interactions.
Will the love triangle get deeper and more tangled, or will something change the direction of their feelings for each other?
Neighborly love
One of the key charms of the drama is the gradual unfolding of the stories of all the residents of Gongjin, who are more than what they seem at first. The village men and women have their own pasts and futures, are not just there to support the main couple’s relationship, and their stories add humor and relatability to the show.
As Ji Sung Hyun’s new variety show shakes things up in Gongjin, viewers can expect new layers to the relationships that bind the neighbors in the small town, as well as more warm-hearted stories and funny moments from the quirky residents of Gongjin.
The 3 mysteries of Gongjin
In the first half of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,” it was revealed that there are three mysteries in Gongjin. The first is about Hong Doo Shik’s past, and where he went for the five years after he graduated from Seoul National University and before he returned to Gongjin to become an odd-jobs expert. The villagers come up with crazy ideas about him working as a spy in North Korea or climbing Mount Everest, but Hong Doo Shik’s constant nightmares indicate a darker story to be unveiled.
The second mystery is the reason that Yeo Hwa Jung (Lee Bong Ryeon) and Jang Yeong Guk (In Gyo Jin) got divorced. The return of Yoo Cho Hee (Hong Ji Hee) has thrown a wrench in the strange relationship between these two ex-spouses, who continue to work with each other and see each other every day in their small town. Since the three also used to be close friends in the past, there is speculation about whether Yoo Cho Hee was also behind the reasons for the other two’s divorce.
The third mystery is about who won the lottery for 1.4 billion won (about $1.2 million) three years ago in Gongjin and kept it to themselves.
The production staff stated, “From the love triangle to the truth behind Gongjin’s three mysteries, the second half of ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ will show upgraded excitement, humor, and warmth. As the emotions of the characters get deeper, please look forward to the equally deepening romance.”
The next episode of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” airs on September 25 at 9 p.m. KST.
