MAMAMOO’s Solar made a solo appearance on KBS’s “Immortal Songs.”
Spoilers
The September 25 episode of “Immortal Songs” was a special featuring producer Nam Guk In and lyricist Jung Eun Yi, who were also a married couple. Nam Guk In and Jung Eun Yi have written hit songs for veteran singers like Nam Jin, Seol Woon Do, and Lee Sun Hee. Jung Eun Yi passed away last November, and Nam Guk Jin said on the show, “I would have been happy to have come on this show with my wife, but I’ll do my best to fulfill her role as well.”
Performers this week included Jeon Sang Geun, Kang Jin and his wife, Kim Hyo Jin, Bae Da Hae, Park Kyu Won, and Ki Se Joong, former Crayon Pop member Soyul, Jin Sung, and MAMAMOO’s Solar. Ailee, who did not perform this week but will perform in the second part next week, was described as the “eldest daughter” of “Immortal Songs,” while Solar was described as the “second daughter.”
“MAMAMOO first appeared on ‘Immortal Songs’ in 2015,” Solar said. “That first appearance was six months after our debut, but after that, we got a lot of calls to appear on the show. There weren’t a lot of chances for MAMAMOO to perform back then, so we were able to build a good image thanks to the show.”
Solar covered Nam Jin’s “With You” and added her own spin to the arrangement and performance, which host Kim Joon Hyun compared to an end-of-the-year awards show performance. Ailee said, “How can someone be so refreshing and sexy at the same time?” and Tei commented, “It’s the most shocking ‘Immortal Songs’ performance I’ve ever seen. The original song has a folksy vibe, but Solar made the song sound expensive.”

The winner of the first part of the two-part special was Jin Sung.
