SEVENTEEN Talks About New Comeback "Attacca," Temporarily Promoting Without Jun And The8, And Contract Renewals
On October 22, SEVENTEEN held a global press conference for the release of their ninth mini album “Attacca.”
“Attacca” comes just four months after the release of the EP “Your Choice” in June. S.Coups said, “We’ve come back with our ninth mini album after four months but we’re happy to be able to show our fans good music in such a short amount of time. Our last album also received more love than we’d expected, so we were happy while preparing for this one.”
Woozi is a producer on the album and the other members participated in writing and composing songs as well. Woozi said, “Rather than basing it on specific experiences, SEVENTEEN’s music flows naturally as time goes on. We always get together to discuss what we can do best right now and what stories that are most like ‘us’ that we can share. Through this, we naturally connected good songs and good albums, this time with the title track ‘Rock With You.'”
DK said, “We wanted to show a new level of depth and maturity with this song. With ‘Power of Love,’ we wanted to show various stories about love, and this album is about ‘passion’ in love.'”
“Attacca” also includes the English song “2 Minus 1,” and Vernon said, “Joshua and I worked on this song together. It’s a digital bonus track. It was our first English b-side track that we included for our fans all over the world.” Joshua said, “We decided on the theme first and picked the genre that would bring out the best of me and Vernon. Vernon suggested the genre ‘pop punk’ and it went well with our theme, so that’s what we went with.”
Although Jun and The8 participated in the album production, they are temporarily not promoting with the group as they focus on their families and activities in China in the last quarter of 2021. Seungkwan said, “We’ve been together as 13 members since our debut, so we definitely feel their absence. We miss them not just during promotions, but in our everyday lives as well. We did a pre-recorded performance earlier today and they thanked us for filling up their parts well. We often contact each other and we’re cheering each other on.”
In July, all the SEVENTEEN members renewed their contracts with Pledis Entertainment. Hoshi said, “The fact that we renewed our contracts early became a turning point for us as a team and the next level for us in our process of maturing into adults. Our hearts have become more firm and we intend to continue showing a new side of ourselves, so please look forward to it and we will repay our fans with good music and performances.”
S.Coups said, “We’d built up a lot of faith with our agency over time, so we decided to renew our contracts. They’ve spent a long time with us, they took good care of us, and they know us really well, so we thought that they’d be of great help in the future that we wanted to create for ourselves. To be honest, we didn’t even have to think about renewing our contracts. We believed that all 13 of us would stay with this agency and showed great trust in each other.”
SEVENTEEN’s last album, “Your Choice,” debuted on the Billboard 200 for the first time at No. 15. Their new album, “Attacca,” surpassed 1.41 million in stock pre-orders in the first day alone. S.Coups said, “We heard about the pre-order numbers through news articles. Until then, I hadn’t believed that we could do that on SEVENTEEN’s strength alone. I want to thank all the people who worked hard on this album, as well as our fans, Carat. Because of that, we feel a greater sense of responsibility about our album and will channel that feeling into great promotions.”
Seungkwan said, “It was an honor to debut for the first time on the Billboard 200 at No. 15. We’d said before that our goal was No. 1, but we were really happy to get No. 15. Now we really want to get No. 1.” Vernon added, “They say that we should shoot for the moon so as to land among the stars even if we miss. We talked about that in the practice room, so we decided to set the big goal of No. 1.”
