Cho Yi Hyun Talks About "School 2021" + Starring Opposite Kim Yo Han, Chu Young Woo, And More

Cho Yi Hyun has shared her thoughts on her upcoming drama “School 2021”!

The long-awaited eighth installment in KBS’s popular “School” drama series, “School 2021” will tell the story of high school students choosing to follow their dreams instead of just preparing for college entrance exams. The coming-of-age tale will follow the growth, friendships, and romances of 18-year-olds facing an uncertain future.

WEi’s Kim Yo Han will star in the drama as Gong Ki Joon, a former Taekwondo athlete who must give up on his dream due to an injury, while Cho Yi Hyun will play his first love Jin Ji Won, who is determined to achieve her dream of becoming a carpenter and clashes with her mom over the issue of school.

“I think the character of Jin Ji Won in the drama is similar to me in a lot of ways,” remarked Cho Yi Hyun. “It wasn’t originally my dream to become an actress, but I changed my mind after seeing a musical and persuaded my parents [to let me pursue acting]. Starting from then on, I worked hard for the profession of acting, just like Ji Won.”

Describing how she gets into character for the role, Cho Yi Hyun added, “In order to portray Jin Ji Won exactly as she is, whenever I’m faced with a situation, I always try to think of it from Jin Ji Won’s perspective.”

Cho Yi Hyun also spoke excitedly about her experience working with co-stars WEi’s Kim Yo Han, Chu Young Woo, and Hwang Bo Reum Byeol.

“It’s really great working with actors of a similar age, because we’re able to comfortably discuss and exchange opinions about our acting,” she shared. “Because I’m working with actors of a similar age, the road to the filming set always feels like going to school. Every time I’m on my way to the filming set, I feel excited and happy.”

Finally, Cho Yi Hyun summed up the upcoming drama by commenting, “‘School 2021’ has the feel of the traditional ‘School’ series, and it also portrays in detail the growth of its characters, who are each thinking and worrying about their own dreams. I also hope to grow through ‘School 2021.'”

“School 2021” premieres on November 17 at 9:30 p.m. KST and will be available with subtitles on Viki. Check out the first teaser for the drama here!
