2AM Talks About Making Their First Group Comeback In 7 Years, What They Want To Be Known As, And More
2AM participated in an interview for the release of their new album, “Ballad 21 F/W”!
“Ballad 21 F/W” is 2AM’s first group comeback in seven years. Their last release together was the studio album “Let’s Talk Together” in 2014.
Changmin said, “After COVID-19 hit, I absorbed myself in writing and producing songs for a year. The songs that I prepared then are slowly coming out now. As someone who waited for 2AM for a long time, my heart is pounding. I am also one of those 2AM fans who have been waiting for the day that we stand onstage again.” Seulong said, “While preparing for 2AM, I also filmed dramas and variety shows. Coming together again is a welcome, grateful, cherished experience. We hope that people will listen a lot to the music that we faithfully prepared.”
Jo Kwon added, “After I was discharged from military service, I went right into acting in the musical ‘Jamie.’ I also had my YouTube channel and went on variety shows. After doing a special performance on Mnet’s ‘Street Woman Fighter,’ I’ve temporarily put my heels away and returned to 2AM with a milder image. It’s our first comeback in seven years, so I’m nervous and excited.”
About their new album, Changmin said, “Like the title ‘F/W,’ it’s a collection of ballads that will make your heart feel warm. We wanted to remind the public of the genre called ‘2AM.’ It’s full of songs from the best producers, so you’ll be able to feel its high quality.”
The two title tracks were made by Bang Si Hyuk and Park Jin Young, who worked with 2AM when they were signed under JYP Entertainment. Jo Kwon said, “It was under Park Jin Young and Bang Si Hyuk’s production that we became the first group to be called ‘ballad idols.’ We brought back the vibe of those times, as well as 2AM’s unique emotionality. It’s an album that contains our identity as 2AM. Since it’s our first album in a while, it’s as precious and welcome to the fans as well as to us.”
Changmin said, “Just like in the past, they showed us a lot of affection. I was moved to see them work with us directly until the very end of production. We’re in our 14th year since our debut, but in their eyes, we’re still youngsters who have much to learn. As two producers who can be said to represent our country, they gave us songs that the public will like.”
Seulong said, “They gave us the songs, directly taught and directed us during the recording process, and showed us their attention and passion even through the mixing and mastering process. We could feel the same emotions as we did back when we were always promoting together. I want to thank them here once again.”
The group also shared what they wanted to be known as in the future. “I really like the phrase, ‘it’s very much like 2AM,'” Changmin said. “I want to express our own color more so that we can earn that label.” Seulong said, “Park Jin Young and Bang Si Hyuk branded us in such a way that we could perform modern and sophisticated ballads. I want to walk that path well and show people good music.”
Jo Kwon said, “I want people to recognize us as cool each on our own but always living up to our reputation when we come together. Not a group that comes together just because people miss them, but because they’re just that good. I want us to go together for a long time and for people to say, ‘As expected, it’s 2AM.'” Jinwoon said, “I want us to become memorable artists, just like seasons make you think of certain things.”
