Park Ju Hyun Dishes On Upcoming Film With Yoo Ah In + The Acting Advice She Got From Hwang Jung Min
In a recent interview and pictorial for Dazed Korea magazine, Park Ju Hyun talked about her upcoming feature film debut!
The rising star is currently busy filming the new Netflix movie “Seoul Vibe,” an action heist film that will also star Yoo Ah In, Go Kyung Pyo, Lee Kyu Hyung, and Ong Seong Wu.
Speaking fondly of her friendship with her co-stars, Park Ju Hyun shared, “In the film, the five members of our family are called the ‘Hole Fam,’ and because our ages are relatively similar and everyone has such great personalities, we’re really getting along like a real-life ‘Hole Fam.'”
The actress also revealed that she’s truly enjoying filming the movie—and that the fun and relaxed atmosphere on set has changed the way she approaches her acting.
“Up until now, I overworked myself due to the pressure of filming, and I would cling onto the script and get overly sensitive,” she recalled. “‘Seoul Vibe’ is my first time feeling this comfortable and relaxed while acting.”
“Seoul Vibe” is Park Ju Hyun’s first feature film, and she shared that the filming process was immensely different from what she’s experienced with dramas.
“The medium of film has an entirely different charm from that of dramas,” explained the actress. “When you’re filming a drama, you don’t know what might happen on set, and because the filming schedule is tight, you need quick reflexes and the ability to focus in the moment. But for movies, I think you need to have really enduring and long-lasting strength. Because from the beginning until the end, the actors and director are tenaciously chasing something together.”
Park Ju Hyun went on to share that back when she was filming her 2020 series “Extracurricular,” she received a valuable piece of acting advice from Hwang Jung Min that she still uses today. The veteran actor advised her to keep a diary from the point of view of her character, and Park Ju Hyun reported that the exercise had a huge influence on the way she approaches her role in “Seoul Vibe.”
As an example, she explained, “While writing a diary as Yoon Hee of ‘Seoul Vibe,’ I somehow got the feeling that Yoon Hee would like spicy food. I actually can’t eat spicy food in real life. But I’ll try using ideas that pop up like that on the filming set. Like in a scene where I’m eating with other people, I’ll chew up a pepper and eat it raw. Because I feel like chomping on a pepper as if it were nothing would make me more Yoon Hee-esque. That’s why I do things like that.”
Park Ju Hyun’s full interview is available in the November issue of Dazed Korea magazine.
