Jannabi's Yoon Kyul Booked For Assaulting A Woman
Jannabi drummer Yoon Kyul has been booked for assault.
On November 24, Channel A reported that Yoon Kyul was currently undergoing investigation at the Seoul Gangnam Police Station after being charged with assaulting a woman.
According to witnesses, Yoon Kyul and the victim were both attending an acquaintance’s wedding reception on November 20 when he attempted to speak to her. When she ignored him, he reportedly hit her multiple times on the back of the head. Yoon Kyul is also said to have thrown things and caused a scene at the event.
The drummer, who joined Jannabi in 2015, recently returned to the band after completing his mandatory military service as a public social worker in July.
Later in the day, Jannabi’s agency Peponi Music released a statement in which they revealed that although Yoon Kyul has been promoting together with the band since his return, he is technically no longer under contract with the agency.
Peponi Music’s full statement is as follows:
Hello, this is Peponi Music.
We are informing you of our company’s position on the news that was reported today.
We personally heard about the incident from drummer Yoon Kyul himself. Because the story Yoon Kyul told us is different from what was reported in the news, we ourselves are quite baffled.
Even before this, our agency’s staff and all the Jannabi members have always warned Yoon Kyul not to cause the kind of shameful incident described in today’s news reports. However, the incident reported in the news still took place, and so we are unable to hide our disappointment.
Before Yoon Kyul began his military service as a public service worker, his contract with Jannabi had already expired, so his contract [with us] had already been terminated, and after he finished his service, he did not renew his contract. So for all of [the band’s] scheduled activities that he participated in afterwards, he technically participated as a guest.
Although he is not currently under contract as a member of Jannabi, we once again express our regret over this shameful matter.
