Watch: Im Soo Jung, Choi Dae Hoon, Lee Do Hyun, And More Subtly Express Their Characters' Complex Emotions On Set Of "Melancholia"
tvN’s “Melancholia” released a new behind-the-scenes look!
The making-of video begins with Choi Dae Hoon sharing, “This is the actual location I got married at. It feels really amazing and dream-like that I’m getting married twice in the same location within the drama. I can’t believe it, and it feels weird. It’s difficult to express.” After the wedding scene, Choi Dae Hoon reveals, “I’ve made a lot of entrances, so I want to make an exit. I’ve only made entrances. There’s no scene in which I make an exit, so I want to walk out. It’s simple logic.”
While watching Im Soo Jung trying out wedding dresses, Choi Dae Hoon acts so shocked that he drops the catalogue he’s holding. With the entire cast laughing, the director comments, “This can’t do.” Choi Dae Hoon argues, “She’s so pretty though.”
Lee Do Hyun carefully checks his script before filming begins. During the interview scene, Lee Do Hyun compliments the anchors for their diction while the anchors comment how amazing it is for actors to express so much emotion in their voices. After taking a picture with Lee Do Hyun, anchor Park Cheol Min shares, “I’ll keep this and make it a family treasure.”
When asked how it feels to have grown up into an adult in the drama, Lee Do Hyun reveals, “First of all, it’s very difficult. I thought a lot at home about how to set the tone and to what extent his personality would have changed, but I talked about it with the director on set, and I was able to grasp the direction [of my character] better.” He continued, “I think dress shirts are uncomfortable, but a tuxedo shirt is even more uncomfortable. I really respect the people who make a living while wearing this.” Lee Do Hyun also acts shy and modest when the staff member explains how everyone on set was impressed by his suit fit.
The director tries to hype up Lee Do Hyun’s entrance among the seated audience, saying how they should pretend to be really big fans of him. However, when the students in the back get overly excited, the director remarks, “There’s no need for the students in the back to go to that extent. He’s a teacher you see everyday anyway.”
Im Soo Jung and Shin Soo Yeon keep taking turns accidentally messing up their lines, but they continue to film amidst bright laughter on set.
