Kim Bum Talks About His Role In 'Ghost Doctor,' 3 Keywords To Describe His Character's Story, And More

Kim Bum recently talked about appearing in tvN’s upcoming drama “Ghost Doctor”!

Helmed by “Heirs” director Boo Sung Chul, “Ghost Doctor” is a fantasy medical drama about two doctors who could not be more different in terms of their backgrounds, skills, or personalities, but who end up combining bodies and spirits.

Rain will star as genius thoracic surgeon Cha Young Min, while Kim Bum will play silver-spoon resident Go Seung Tak. Apink‘s Son Naeun will play emergency room intern Oh Soo Jung, who believes in supernatural phenomena and miracles despite studying medicine, and Uee will play neurosurgeon Jang Se Jin, who happens to be Cha Young Min’s ex-girlfriend.

Kim Bum’s character Go Seung Tak is a highly intelligent resident who hails from a privileged background. His grandfather is the founder of the hospital, and his mother is the chairman of a foundation. During the internship interview when he was asked why he became a doctor, he simply answered, “Because my grandfather and my mother told me to.” He has no sense of duty as a doctor, but when he gets entangled with genius thoracic surgeon Cha Young Min due to an unexpected incident, he will face a huge turning point in his life.

Kim Bum talked about Go Seung Tak, saying, “I began to express Go Seung Tak thinking that he was a character from comic books rather than a realistic one. Unlike my roles in the projects I’ve shown so far, it has comical elements, so [viewers] will be able to see a softer side [of me].”

Then the actor added, “However, Go Seung Tak is not just a bright [character], but he has his own painful story, so I hope you look forward to various aspects [of him].”

Kim Bum picked “before being possessed,” “while possessed,” and “after being possessed” as keywords that best represent Go Seung Tak. Before combining bodies and spirits with Cha Young Min, Go Seung Tak is light and bright. However, when that extraordinary incident happens, various situations occur in his life. Then viewers will be able to see Go Seung Tak’s emotional rollercoaster after the experience. Kim Bum explained, “[Viewers] can see the differences [of Go Seung Tak] during each stage, so I think this is a key point that could only be seen in this drama and character.”

Kim Bum continued to share the details of his character, saying, “Go Seung Tak is unable to perform surgery for some reason, but he’s fundamentally someone who wants to save people. Then he meets a special person named Cha Young Min and wishes to save people by borrowing his hands. Therefore, his sense of duty and his beliefs are clear, but as the episodes progress, he will feel that he can perform surgery that he hasn’t tried because of his scars. I focused on Go Seung Tak’s growth story like this.”

Concerning his synchronization with his character, the actor explained, “When I first came across Go Seung Tak, I thought we were very different because he has much more energy than me. However, throughout filming, I was able to receive Go Seung Tak’s happy virus, and now that I am portraying this role, I found positive strength, so I’m happy. I hope the viewers who watch ‘Ghost Doctor’ and Go Seung Tak can get this kind of energy, too.”

“Ghost Doctor” will premiere on January 3 at 10:30 p.m. KST.
