BTS Becomes 1st Foreign Artist In History Ever To Top Oricon's Yearly Artist Rankings
BTS has just made Oricon history!
On December 24, Oricon—the largest music statistics site in Japan—officially announced that BTS had topped its year-end artist rankings for 2021 as the best-selling artist of the year in Japan. The annual rankings are determined by calculating the total sales of an artist’s singles, albums, and DVDs, as well as their streaming data, for the entire year.
BTS is now the first foreign artist in history to top the year-end artist rankings—adding to their previous achievement of becoming the first foreign group ever to top Oricon’s year-end album chart (with their Japanese compilation album “BTS, THE BEST”).
According to Oricon, the success of “BTS, THE BEST” and their smash hit single “Butter,” as well as the enduring popularity of their 2020 hit “Dynamite,” all played a big role in the group soaring to the top of this year’s artist rankings.
The BTS members commented, “We are truly delighted and grateful to claim No. 1 on Oricon’s yearly rankings for 2021. We believe this is all thanks to ARMY [BTS’s fandom], who are always supporting us. Thank you so much for always giving us your unchanging love and support.”
Congratulations to BTS on another historic achievement!
