Yoo Jae Suk Talks About His Experience With COVID-19 And Being In Quarantine
On the January 1 episode of MBC’s “How Do You Play?”, Yoo Jae Suk made his return to the show after a brief hiatus due to COVID-19.
Yoo Jae Suk was diagnosed with a breakthrough infection of COVID-19 on December 13 after coming into close contact with another case. He was pronounced fully recovered on December 21.
On “How Do You Play?”, he shared his experience of COVID-19 and being in quarantine. He started off by thanking viewers, saying, “I was able to recover carefully thanks to everyone’s support. I’m sorry for having caused concern with the sudden news.”
He said, “When you get the positive result, it’s so shocking. I was classified as a close contact, so I got a PCR test and it came back negative at first. I took an at-home test and got negative, but when I took another test on the day I had a recording scheduled, it came back positive.”
He continued, “When I got the call that I had tested positive, I felt drained of energy. Fortunately, I had no symptoms. That’s why I was able to recover quickly, but it made me realize I should be more careful.”
About his period in isolation, he said, “I was in a small room and lived almost like the movie ‘Oldboy.’ I had to wear plastic gloves even to eat food. I would wake up at 6:30 a.m. and call my colleagues who were in self-quarantine. I called people way too much.”
He continued, “Around 10 a.m., I’d get a call from Jo Se Ho. We were on a video call, but he called me from his house without a shirt on. I would call HaHa, Jung Joon Ha, and Shin Bong Sun next. I’d call Mijoo after that, and she sent me a video titled, ’31 ways to have fun by yourself,’ so I watched that.”
Mijoo interrupted to ask, “Did you watch the other thing?” and Yoo Jae Suk burst into laughter. “She asked me if I had seen anything interesting, and I said there was nothing, so she sent me her own fancam,” he said. “Lee Kwang Soo sent me a video of himself eating breakfast. Why would he film that and send it to me? It’s not like I don’t eat breakfast myself.”
Yoo Jae Suk shared that being away from his family had been particularly painful. “I really missed my kids, but I couldn’t see them, so we video-called a lot,” he said. “My family also had to self-quarantine because of me, so that made me even more emotional.”
