ASTRO's JinJin And Rocky Talk About Their Unit Debut With "Restore"

On January 17, JinJin&Rocky held an online showcase for the release of their debut mini album “Restore.”

The two rappers showcased their great chemistry with the new unit. JinJin commented on the pairing, saying, “This is our second debut. This is the first debut with just Rocky and me and the second unit from ASTRO. We thought a lot about what to come up with for the unit and ended up producing the whole album. I hope everyone enjoys it.”

“Restore” is a refreshing album that hopes for everyone’s safe return to everyday life. With JinJin as ASTRO’s main rapper and leader and Rocky as ASTRO’s main dancer and lead rapper, JinJin and Rocky completed the album with a combination of rap, vocals, and performances.

Along with the sub-unit Moonbin & Sanha with their mini album “IN-OUT” and MJ’s solo album “Happy Virus,” ASTRO continues to demonstrate their ability to take on a wide range of musical genres.

JinJin spoke about the album, saying, “It’s a different type of refreshing vibe than what ASTRO has to offer. We both also produce music for ASTRO, and we wanted to make sure that this unit was different. This album is like our first baby. We’re both rappers, and we’ve worked together for about 10 years. I knew that we’d work well together, and we sure did.”

Rocky also added, “I waited 10 years to show everyone the vocal side of me. Between the two of us, I’m the main vocal. I’m a rapper in ASTRO, but I don’t think my singing is new to fans.”

Rocky talked about asking Moonbin and Sanha for advice for the new album. “I think the main difference between the two units is that we produced our album.” JinJin added, “They told us that our album is refreshing.”

Their title track “Just Breath” is a funky dance pop song with a retro vibe and trendy synth sounds and is a song for those who are tired and want to be free. JinJin said, “We wanted to reflect on the exhausting lifestyle that everyone had to adjust to due to the pandemic.”

Rocky added, “The song will feel like a breath of fresh air. We poured our hearts into this.”

Other songs on the album include “Lazy” featuring Weki Meki‘s Choi Yoojung, “Lock down,” “Complete Me,” and “CPR.”

JinJin chose his favorite song from the album, saying, “I recommend listening to ‘Lazy.’ I created that song. Everyone gets lazy sometimes, and I found that I finished writing the lyrics in just a day after writing down my own story.”

Rocky also picked his favorite track. “I really like ‘CPR’ because I produced that song. It’s a pop ballad genre song, and I’m excited to put out a track with my voice only.”

Finally, the two talked about the message they want to send with their album. JinJin said, “We both told each other that we should really show people what we got. I want people to see that we know how to have fun on stage.”

Rocky added, “Just like the name of the album, I hope that people can relax and have fun when listening to our songs.”
