NCT 127 Wins First SMA Daesang Of Their Career At 31st Seoul Music Awards

NCT 127 won the Daesang at the 31st Seoul Music Awards!

The 31st Seoul Music Awards took place on January 23 at the Gocheok Sky Dome, hosted by Kim Sung Joo, Boom, and AOA’s Seolhyun.

For the first time in their career, NCT 127 won the Daesang (Grand Prize) at the Seoul Music Awards. They also took home a Bonsang (Main Award).

In NCT 127’s Daesang speech, Taeyong said, “We didn’t expect this, but we are deeply moved at having received such a big award.” He then named all the people that he wanted to thank at SM Entertainment, including founder Lee Soo Man and many of their staff members. He went on, “The nine members have all been running really hard. I think that 2021 was a year that we could shine because all the NCT members – 127, DREAM, WayV, NCT 2021 – were together. If it wasn’t for the cool, amazing, energetic, talented members, then I don’t think it would have been possible for us to reach this height. I am proud of the members and hope that we can continue being healthy and happy without injuries or illness.”

Tearing up, Doyoung said, “I’ve dreamed for a long time of receiving an award like this. Thank you for giving us such a great award. This is all due to the fans. It even makes me think, ‘Is it okay for us to receive this award?’ We will keep working hard so that we can become artists that suit an award like this. I want to say thank you to the members’ parents at this time as well.”

Asked by the MCs to give a speech in English, Johnny said first in Korean, “Just like Doyoung said, I want to thank our parents.” In English, he shouted, “Mama! We made it!” He continued in English, “I really want to thank all of our parents. They’re the reason that we were able to make it all the way here. They were the stars, they were the ones who supported us. They still support us. I really hope that my parents and our parents know how much we appreciate them. Thank you to our fans, NCTzens. You guys have no idea… I mean, you probably have a little of an idea… we worked really hard. I’m really glad and happy to see my members happy, and I know those of you are watching are happy as well. Happy 2022.”

IU won the Best Song Award as well as a Bonsang. In a video speech, she said, “Thank you for giving me such a big award. It makes me realize how much love ‘LILAC’ received. As I was preparing the ‘LILAC’ album last year, I was excited and happy but it was also difficult because the theme of ending my 20s was such a major part of the process. I didn’t know at the time that the song would go on to win the Best Song Award. Thank you to UAENA [fan club name] and the fans who loved ‘LILAC.’ This honor belongs to UAENA and the producers who helped me make the ‘LILAC’ album.”

NCT DREAM won the Best Album Award for their first studio album, “Hot Sauce,” and its repackaged version, “Hello Future.” Jaemin said, “Thank you for giving us such a big award. We want to thank all the people who worked with us at SM, including Lee Soo Man, our managers, our A&R team, and our hair and makeup team. We worked hard in 2021 to show off our first studio album with seven members, and it’s an honor to receive such a great award. We will continue to work hard in 2022. Take care of your health and happy new year.”

Chenle also shared a speech in Mandarin, saying, “First, we want to thank all our staff members, who worked really hard on this album. To our managers, you worked really hard. I am also thankful to the members’ families, including mine. Thank you for raising us so well. Finally, it’s thanks to our fans for always supporting us that we were able to achieve good results and a good award. We will repay this in 2022 with even better work. Stay healthy and happy every day!”

In English, Mark said, “Best Album of the Year is a big, big title, and I wanted to say thank you to our fans first and foremost. It’s really special for us because this was our first album all together, our first full-length album, and to have this title itself is a great, great honor. It’ll humble us down more and we’ll work harder this year to pick up another one of these next year. Look forward to more of NCT 127, NCT DREAM, all of NCT.”
