THE BOYZ Reflect On 2021, Their Growth As A Group, Their Love For The B, And More
In a recent interview, THE BOYZ discussed their favorite memories from last year, their emotions after meeting their fans for the first time in over two years, and more!
This year marks the fifth year since THE BOYZ first debuted. When reflecting back on it, the members thought about how their mentality has changed since the beginning. Q started off by saying, “I think I’ve adapted to idol life now. In the past, I just looked forward and blindly ran, but now I have the freedom to look back and around.” Jacob continued by saying, “You can see as much as you have experienced. After experiencing many things throughout the past 4 years, I have some tips now. I think I’ve learned a bit about how to manage my schedule to move more efficiently and how to prepare for a comeback in order to show a more complete performance.”
The members also talked about their most memorable moments from last year. Kevin began by saying, “We released an album called ‘THRILL RIDE’ after ‘Kingdom’ and all the tracks entered the charts. I was really happy then. I’m really grateful for The B making this happen for us.”
Sangyeon talked about the awards the group won last year saying, “We won five awards on a music show. We also got first place on a stage where many sunbaes also won first place awards. I was really happy.” Meanwhile, Jacob reflected on FAN CON from last year saying, “FAN CON will be an unforgettable memory. We haven’t been able to meet the fans for two and a half years and so it was a shame, but as we did FAN CON, I was able to relieve some of that thirst [to perform]. I hope this year too we have a lot of time to spend together with our fans.”
When discussing their love for their fans, the members spoke about how hard it was for them to not meet fans due to the COVID-19 situation. Q explained, “It was a moment I had been really anticipating. I was really nervous. There were many times where I was tired and struggling because I couldn’t meet the fans for such a long time, but through the fan concert I was comforted. Due to the COVID-19 situation, fans wore masks and they couldn’t make a lot of sound, but I still don’t know how they applauded so loud. The B’s heart was conveyed to us. Thanks to the fans’ support, I gained a lot of strength. I think I will be able to spend 2022 more energetically.”
Younghoon opened about how he had cried when he talked about his feelings at the end saying, “It had been a long time since we were able to meet The B, I wrote a letter because in the moment I thought I couldn’t speak properly. As I read the letter, I was so overwhelmed with emotions that tears poured out of me profusely. During that time, there were a lot of difficult and exhausting moments, but I was able to endure and overcome them thanks to the constant support from The B. I cried because I thought we shared a lot of precious time with each other.”
They also discussed the unique ways they express love to their fans. Eric explained, “Our love for our fans is a bit unusual. Each member has a different way to express their love. I write lots of letters. Each time I receive a letter from the fans, it gives me a lot of strength. I want to give that same strength to the fans, so on the official fan cafe I post things or write handwritten letters. Looking back, it’s already been four years since I shared a letter with The B.” Similarly, Q said he tries to connect with fans via pictures saying, “I tend to share my life with The B. If I take a picture, I really want to share it with The B.”
Throughout their career, THE BOYZ have been aiming to grow musically throughout their songs. When asked about the secret to their growth, the members shared their thoughts. Ju Haknyeon attributed the growth to the fans saying, “99 percent of the credit is thanks to The B. I think the remaining one percent was our effort. New disagreed and said, “My thoughts are a little different. I think 100 percent of it was our effort. I’m not just saying this, but we’ve worked really hard. We also practice a lot too.”
Eric added on to this saying, “I still remember it clearly. During the ‘Road to Kingdom’ era, I remember we practiced for 16-18 hours a day. When I opened my eyes, I went to the practice room and practiced all night. Then I’d barely doze off, and then when I opened my eyes again, I’d go practice again. Aside from the time we ate and went to the bathroom, I think we only practiced. I’ve calculated the time we practice, on average we practice 14 hours everyday. I think it’s amazing that we didn’t run away from that much practice.”
Kevin talked about the members various appearances, saying, “I think the strength of THE BOYZ is that each of the 11 members has a different charm. We can pull off different concepts. I think as we tried this and that, we increased our appeal and grew from it.” Sangyeon thought that the members’ growth was due to their teamwork, saying, “I think we all have faith in each other. The members all believe in each other and we unite as one so that no one gives up. I think this because of this teamwork, we were able to grow.”
When asked about any words they have to say to their fans, the members expressed feelings of gratitude and love towards them. Sunwoo said, “To The B, thank you so much for loving us. We’ve made a lot of memories together. There’s a saying that goes ‘At the end of hardship, there is happiness,’ so going forward, let’s only make happy things. I love you.”
Juyeon said, “Please take good care of us in 2022 as well. I hope this year will be happier and healthier than last year. The Boyz will try hard to spend the year like that.” Younghoon added, “In 2021, we made a lot of good memories together, so let’s make 2022 a happy year!” Jacob finished by saying, “I hope in 2022 we can meet more often and make a lot of happy and enjoyable memories. The B, always take care of your health and I love you.”
