6 Noona Romance K-Dramas That Will Make Your Heart Flutter

Noona romances are not for everyone, but there are certain K-dramas that have done great jobs of playing on the trope and drawing viewers in. Something about seeing a younger male lead fall in love with an older woman without considering her age but instead looking to her heart can really make your heart flutter. Although we have visited this topic before, here are six other noona romances that are guaranteed to give you butterflies!

Make sure you check out part one of this article here.

1. “Romance is a Bonus Book”

A more recent drama that deserves a spot on this list, “Romance is a Bonus Book” stars Lee Jong Suk as Cha Eun Ho, a writer and editor of a publishing company, and Lee Na Young as Kang Dan Yi, a mother that’s trying to get back into the workforce. The two met when they were children, and in a twist of events, became best friends. Fast forward to when they’re adults, Dan Yi gets a divorce and has to find a job in order to support her daughter. She turns to Eun Ho to help her, and Dan Yi ends up getting a job at the same company as Eun Ho.

The best part about this underrated series is seeing Lee Na Young and Lee Jong Suk acting together. Lee Jong Suk had mentioned several times before in interviews that Lee Na Young is his ideal type and that he would love to be able to work with her in the future. Well, his dream totally came true, and you can really see the chemistry between the two actors despite their age gap! It is obvious that the two have great teamwork and that they were happy working with one another.

2. “Encounter

As the daughter of a politician, Cha Soo Hyun (Song Hye Kyo) is forced into a marriage with a man she doesn’t love, gets divorced, and ends up traveling to Havana, Cuba to help build a hotel. On her first day there, she gets into an accident, and this is where she has her first encounter with the free-spirited Kim Jin Hyuk (Park Bo Gum).

This noona romance is beautifully filmed and produced. First off, you have the breathtaking backdrop of Cuba in the first few episodes to really set the tone of the series. To add to this, you have a long-haired, free-spirited Kim Jin Hyuk who is ready to sweep Cha Soo Hyun off her feet. This equation almost guarantees butterflies and will have you longing to be romanced while in another country. The way in which Jin Hyuk wears his heart on his sleeve for Soo Hyun is perfection on so many levels!

4. “Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food”

“Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food” (also known as “Something in the Rain”) stars Son Ye Jin as Yoon Jin Ah and Jung Hae In as the adorable Seo Joon Hee. The story involves Ji Ah and Joon Hee falling in love with each other after having known each other since they were kids. Ji Ah also happens to be best friends with Joon Hee’s older sister. Although there is a bit of an age gap between the two, they fall in love and have to deal with the trials and tribulations of their family members being against their relationship.

“Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food” is one of the classic noona romance K-dramas that many can’t seem to get over. With the adorable blossoming romance between Jung Hae In and Son Ye Jin and the even more delectable behind-the-scenes footages of the two being so sweet together, you really can’t help but get emotional over this one. Although Jin Ah’s mother gets a bit annoying at times, it still doesn’t take away from the heartfelt and beautiful romance between Jin Ah and Joon Hee.

5. “She Would Never Know”

“She Would Never Know” is based off of a popular web novel. It involves the love story between two office workers who work for a cosmetics brand. Won Jin Ah plays Yoon Song Ah, and SF9‘s Rowoon plays her younger coworker Chae Hyun Seung. Chae Hyun Seung falls in love at first sight with Yoon Song Ah, and the two engage in a passionate romance.

The series was the perfect tone to start off the year in 2021, and what a blessing it is to see Rowoon in a romantic role. He does romance so well, and even though this is a noona romance, he is still able to hold his own and exude a strong presence on screen. It never feels like Chae Hyun Seung is that young in comparison to Yoon Song Ah, and seeing him continually declare his love for her is heart-stoppingly sweet.

6. “When the Camellia Blooms”

“When the Camellia Blooms” stars Kang Ha Neul and Gong Hyo Jin as two lovers with a lot of baggage as a result of broken families. Hwang Yong Sik (Kang Ha Neul) finds solace and joy out of his everyday life and basically swears his life to Dong Baek (Gong Hyo Jin). But in the midst of this heartfelt love story, there’s a serial killer on the loose whom Yong Sik is trying to hunt down.

“When the Camellia Blooms” won the Daesang at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards and deservedly so. Kang Ha Neul does an amazing job portraying a lovestruck police officer. His charm lies in how much he is willing to make things work for the single mother who had her heart shattered from a previous relationship. It is a fairy tale romance with a countryside prince who manages to win over the noona’s heart of stone. Their chemistry is beyond perfection!
