Watch: "Queendom 2" Kicks Off Premiere With VIVIZ And Hyolyn's Performances Of Iconic GFRIEND And SISTAR Tracks

Mnet’s “Queendom 2” has kicked off!

The second season of the idol competition show “Queendom” features VIVIZ, LOONA, WJSN, Brave Girls, Kep1er, and Hyolyn, and is hosted by Lee Yong Jin and Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon.

On March 31, “Queendom 2” aired its highly-anticipated first episode, which began with an introduction ceremony as each group made their grand entrance and learned who they would competing against. Later in the episode, they kicked off the first round of competition – a performance of each group’s most representative song.

During the introduction ceremony, the competitors learned the rules and what was in store for the winner of “Queendom 2.” After several rounds of competition, the ultimate winner of “Queendom 2” will win a comeback show that will be broadcast all over the globe. Additionally, if any group ranks in sixth place for two consecutive weeks ahead of the final round, they will be eliminated.

Before they proceeded, each group had to reveal who they chose as their rival. With each group being able to cast one vote and Hyolyn casting two (as the only solo competitor), Hyolyn came out with the most votes as both WJSN and VIVIZ chose her as their rival. Hyolyn chose Kep1er, Kep1er chose LOONA, and LOONA chose WJSN. As the only group that received zero votes, Brave Girls’ Minyoung commented, “I wanted to receive at least one vote.” Yuna added, “I thought that we would have to show ourselves better.”

The mission for the first competition round was to perform your most representative song. On the day of the competition, it was reported that 11 of 12 LOONA members had tested positive for COVID-19 and would thus sit out filming for the first round.

Kicking off the first performance was VIVIZ, who announced that they had a hard time picking a song. During their preparation process, SinB commented, “Like we’ve always said, we’re VIVIZ and GFRIEND so there’s no reason to exclude GFRIEND songs.”

Ultimately, the group chose to perform GFRIEND’s “Time for the Moon Night” and “Rough.” In the waiting room, SinB’s close friend WJSN’s Eunseo broke out into tears and commented, “SinB said she wasn’t nervous, but it felt like watching myself in a situation where I was really nervous. Although we’re competitors, as a friend, I felt proud seeing her complete this well.”

Following their performance, Eunha shared, “I looked at the audience after our performance and they were crying. Seeing that made me tear up too. I didn’t want to cry in front of our fans so I held it in.”

For her representative song, Hyolyn chose SISTAR’s iconic song “Touch My Body,” exciting both her fans and competitors.
