Sung Hoon Talks About Working With Im Soo Hyang For 3rd Time + Their Chemistry In "Woori The Virgin"
Sung Hoon has shared his thoughts on reuniting with Im Soo Hyang in their upcoming drama “Woori the Virgin“!
A remake of the hit American show “Jane the Virgin” (which was itself based on a Venezuelan telenovela), “Woori the Virgin” tells the story of a woman named Oh Woo Ri, who has been strictly maintaining her chastity before marriage, but winds up pregnant after an accidental artificial insemination during a medical exam.
Im Soo Hyang will star as the titular Woo Ri, while Sung Hoon will play Raphael, the CEO of a large company and the biological father of Woo Ri’s child. Despite appearing aloof on the outside due to his frosty personality, Raphael is actually a hopeless romantic on the inside, and he secretly dreams of meeting the love of his life and finding happiness.
When asked why he had chosen “Woori the Virgin” for his next acting project, Sung Hoon replied, “The biggest reason was director Jung Jung Hwa, who is in charge of both directing and writing the script. I previously worked with director [Jung Jung Hwa] once before on ‘The Sound of Your Heart: Reboot 2,’ and I chose this drama without hesitation because of my good memories from back then.”
Notably, “Woori the Virgin” will mark Sung Hoon’s third time working with Im Soo Hyang: after starring opposite one another in the 2011 drama “New Tales of Gisaeng,” they reunited as co-stars in the drama “Five Enough” back in 2016.
Sung Hoon remarked in amusement, “I jokingly told Im Soo Hyang with a laugh, ‘We’re seeing each other quite often.’ We worked together on another drama in 2016, but this is the first time in 11 years that we’re playing each other’s love interests, after SBS’s ‘New Tales of Gisaeng.'”
He went on to express confidence in his chemistry with Im Soo Hyang, explaining, “Because we know each other’s acting styles so well, we were able to create great chemistry from our very first shoot [for ‘Woori the Virgin’].”
Sung Hoon also spoke highly of his other co-stars, noting, “The more time I spent filming with actors Im Soo Hyang, Shin Dong Wook, and Hong Ji Yoon, the closer and more tight-knit our bond became, and because of the good energy I received from that bond, I was able to stay focused until the very end. I always think that it’s impossible not to have flawless chemistry and teamwork when you’re working with great people, and I hope those good vibes are conveyed to viewers as well.”
However, despite his confidence in the drama, Sung Hoon confessed that he didn’t have much in common with his character. “From the moment it was decided that I would be acting as Raphael, I started to immerse myself in the character, but it was hard to find many similarities between him and the real-life person Sung Hoon,” he shared.
Finally, the actor remarked, “These days, our nation’s low birth rate has become a serious problem. I think people who watch this drama will find themselves reflecting on this issue once again. I’m confident that [our drama] will be able to make time fly by quickly on Monday and Tuesday, the days when time always moves the slowest, so please tune in to the premiere.”
“Woori the Virgin” premieres on May 9 at 10 p.m. KST and will be available with subtitles on Viki.
