Kim Sung Cheol Talks About Why He Feels Pressured Starring In Musicals, Feedback He Wants To Hear As An Actor, And More

Elle magazine’s latest issue features a gorgeous pictorial with Kim Sung Cheol!

During the actor’s interview, he spoke about “Death Note,” the musical he’s currently starring in. Kim Sung Cheol shared, “Since there are more people who have learned about actor Kim Sung Cheol through movies or [TV] broadcasts, I felt nervous and pressured that I had to do well. Despite that, I thought, ‘I did it,’ so I got choked up at our first preview performance. When I sing alone to a full audience, it feels like my body is about to crumble and I like that.”

The story of the musical is that one will die if their name is written in the “death note.” When asked his thoughts on this plot, Kim Sung Cheol answered, “You can’t randomly decide on death and you also can’t carelessly cut life [short]. A ‘death note’ that arbitrarily decides on someone’s death must only exist as a prop. I think that you have to actualize justice when you’re in a position of responsibility to convey your beliefs to the world.”

Through musicals as well as his roles in dramas like “Our Beloved Summer” and “Do You Like Brahms?,” Kim Sung Cheol has showcased a wide variety of charms. He commented, “As an actor, I like hearing that I’m good at acting or that I built a character well, but you can’t always only hear sweet words. There are roles that suit you and definitely aspects you can do well at.”

He continued, “It is not a given to anticipate the same response when you deviate from the domain you’re used to and try something new. I do my best so I can hear, ‘I’m glad that Kim Sung Cheol played them,’ regarding the characters I’ve portrayed.”
