8 K-Dramas With A Lot Of Action And A Lot Of Romance

This is for the K-drama lovers who need romance in their stories but also love some intense action. These titles are also perfect to watch when you and your bestie or partner are trying to decide on something to watch but like different genres. It’s the perfect balance that will keep you on the edge of your seat while having all the butterflies. Here are eight K-dramas that are the perfect blend of both action and romance!

1. “Healer

Ji Chang Wook plays the anti-hero named Seo Jung Hoo, who spends his nights running errands in order to save money. He does this so he can live the rest of his life secluded from the world until one day, he falls in love with Chae Young Shin (Park Min Young).

“Healer” is one of those K-dramas that is pleasantly surprising in that there are action scenes that even a romantic at heart would enjoy watching. There are several scenes throughout the series where Seo Jung Hoo is trying to figure out what happened to his past. It also helps that his job is running errands for anonymous people, which involves quite a bit of action. And for those who love the romantic side, the chemistry and love story between Young Shin and Jung Hoo is one of the greatest ever!

2. “Flower of Evil

Lee Joon Gi stars alongside Moon Chae Won in the mystery thriller “Flower of Evil.” His character Baek Hee Sung is a perfect husband and doting father to a little girl. To the visible eye he is perfect, but there’s another life he leads – one filled with murder, deceit, and lies. His wife, Cha Ji Won, is a detective and is in the midst of a cat-and-mouse hunt that will lead her to her husband as the prime suspect.

The success of “Flower of Evil” is owed to various factors: the storyline, the edge-of-your-seat cliffhangers, the character development, and of course, the love story between Ji Won and Hee Sung. It’s a crime/thriller in genre, but viewers were also surprised to see that the romance aspect of the series was perfectly sweet and swoon-worthy. Seeing the true love between the two characters as husband and wife while they try to solve the mystery surrounding Hee Sung is the perfect mix of the two genres.

3. “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

“Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” stars Park Bo Young as an aspiring game maker who was born with super strength. She meets Ahn Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik), the CEO of a game company, who happens to be in need of a bodyguard. He ends up hiring Do Bong Soon with the added bonus of letting her develop a game while she works for him.

When you hear the synopsis of “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” you may be quick to think that it is more so on the romantic side, but there is surprisingly a lot of action involved. When you have a female lead who becomes a crime-fighting hero while also trying to sort out her feelings, you can expect a lot of cute romantic scenes alongside Do Bong Soon using her super strength to kick some serious butt.

4. “Happiness

“Happiness” stars Park Hyung Sik as Jung Yi Hyun, a detective, and Han Hyo Joo as Yoon Sae Bom, a tactical agent of the Gyeonggi Police Station. The two were classmates in high school and end up in an apocalyptic situation where people are getting infected by a virus that turns them into zombie-like creatures. The two are fighting for their lives and for others.

Another Park Hyung Sik series that’s definitely worth noting is “Happiness.” When the backdrop of a romantic story involves a zombie-like apocalypse, you can definitely expect a lot of action. Even more so because of the fact that Yi Hyun and Sae Bom are a detective and police agent. Viewers will be surprised to know that there is a heartfelt romance at the core of this apocalyptic storyline, making the gruesome and grotesque scenes almost bearable.

5. “Come and Hug Me

Chae Do Jin (Jang Ki Yong) and Han Jae Yi (Jin Ki Joo) both fall in love with each other in high school. They are each other’s first love, and there is nothing in the world that Do Jin wouldn’t do for Jae Yi. Unfortunately, Do Jin’s father is crazy and ends up killing Jae Yi’s entire family. He isn’t able to kill Jae Yi, but this tears Do Jin and Jae Yi apart. When the two grow up, they find a way into each other’s lives again but Do Jin’s murderous father is getting out of jail, and he wants to finish the job he started by killing Jae Yi.

The intensity of the serial killer story at the forefront as well as the passionate love story between Do Jin and Jae Yi are the perfect counterbalance. The overall vibe of the series is packed with suspense and action, which only makes the love story that much more romantic. You’ll appreciate seeing Jang Ki Yong in uniform as he plays a detective who is willing to do anything to get the bad guys and protect the woman he loves.
