Watch: Lee Jae Wook Flirtily Bickers With Jung So Min + Gets Jealous Of Hwang Minhyun In "Alchemy Of Souls" Teaser
tvN has shared a new sneak peek of its upcoming drama “Alchemy of Souls”!
Penned by the famous screenwriting duo known as the Hong Sisters, “Alchemy of Souls” is a fantasy romance drama set in the fictional nation of Daeho, a country that does not exist in history or on maps. The drama will tell the story of characters whose fates become twisted due to magic that swaps people’s souls.
Lee Jae Wook will star as the sophisticated yet troublemaking young master Jang Wook of the Jang family. Jang Wook has a tragic backstory, with the entire nation of Daeho whispering about the shocking secret behind his scandalous birth. Despite seeming cool and indifferent on the outside, he is burning with fiery mischievousness on the inside.
Jung So Min will star as Mu Deok Yi, who secretly harbors the soul of the great assassin Nak Soo. However, this fierce soul is stuck in an impossibly weak body that cannot keep up with Nak Soo’s powerful spirit. After becoming Jang Wook’s attendant and secret teacher, she begins training him in a brutal, merciless manner.
NU’EST’s Hwang Minhyun will play the role of Seo Youl, the genius scion of the noble Seo family. Although he is flawless in every way—from his handsome looks to his brilliant mind and his impressive literary and martial arts skills—he is too naive to be realistic. Seo Youl is also a hopeless romantic who harbors a pure-hearted love for one secretive girl.
In the newly released teaser for “Alchemy of Souls,” Jang Wook reveals that he’s not exactly an easy student to teach, declaring, “I’ve sought out 12 different teachers, and I was turned away 12 times. And then I finally found my fated teacher who would change my destiny.”
However, that fated teacher isn’t in for an easy ride: the clip goes on to show the troublemaking Jang Wook giving the frustrated Mu Deok Yi a hard time. When she attempts to discipline him, he complains, “Why are you hitting me?” He then whines, “Teacher, can’t you see your student is having a hard time?” She grits out in response, “When you’re whining, you call me ‘teacher,’ but when you’re ordering me around, you’re the ‘young master?'”
Despite his delinquent ways, Jang Wook soon develops feelings for his long-suffering mentor. When he sees her fall into the handsome Seo Youl’s arms, he gets jealous and begs, “Teacher, don’t cheat on me.”
Mu Deok Yi remarks, “It takes effort not to fall in love with a handsome man,” leading Jang Wook to exclaim, “Then what about me? Oh, so you’ve been making an effort because of me all this time!” Mu Deok Yi snidely retorts, “Not at all,” and he anxiously stammers, “Why not? But what you’re saying is totally inconsistent! Just say that you’ve been making an effort.” She replies tonelessly, “Yes, young master,” to which he complains, “Say it sincerely!”
“Alchemy of Souls” will premiere on June 18 at 9:10 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out the new teaser below!
