DAWN Talks About Admiring Fiancée HyunA As A Person + Working With Her On His Latest Album Jacket Shoot
In a recent interview and pictorial for Harper’s Bazaar Korea, DAWN talked about his new single, working with HyunA, and more!
Earlier this month, DAWN returned with the new single “Stupid Cool,” which marked his first solo release in a year and eight months.
Explaining that “Stupid Cool” was a reworking of a song he had first written two and a half years ago, DAWN shared, “I sometimes listen to songs I made in the past, and listening to it again, [‘Stupid Cool’] sounded new to me. These days, I can’t seem to write the same kind of music that I made back then. It was a song that I made like a children’s drawing, coloring outside the lines and doing whatever I wanted in terms of color and structure.”
He went on to muse, “If I had finished the song back then, it would have been a very different song from what it is now. I think the song turned out the way it did because I myself have grown [as a musician] in the time since I first wrote it.”
DAWN’s fiancée HyunA took on the role of photographer for his album jacket shoot for “Stupid Cool,” and he spoke enthusiastically about working with her.
Heaping praise on HyunA for her artistic talents, DAWN remarked, “Setting aside the fact that we’re a couple, HyunA’s a person I truly admire and respect. And she’s outstanding in terms of her grasp of visuals. I get a lot of help from her when it comes to visual elements like colors or outfits.”
“HyunA shot my album jacket [for ‘Stupid Cool’] with the digital camera she always carries around, and I liked the end result as soon as I saw it,” he continued. “I realized, ‘Ah, so this is how HyunA sees me.'”
DAWN’s full interview and pictorial will be available in the July issue of Harper’s Bazaar Korea magazine.
