Watch: Kim Min Jae And Kim Hyang Gi Save Each Other's Lives And Learn To Heal From Kim Sang Kyung In "Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist"
tvN has released a highlight teaser for “Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist”!
Based off a novel of the same name, “Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist” depicts the story of Yoo Se Poong (Kim Min Jae), a well-known internal medicine doctor who gets expelled from the royal court after being caught up in a conspiracy. Afterwards, he meets Seo Eun Woo (Kim Hyang Gi) and Gye Ji Han (Kim Sang Kyung) in the strange and beautiful Gyesu village and works to become a true doctor who heals the heart.
The highlight teaser gives a brief preview of the lives and complicated pasts of genius acupuncturist Yoo Se Poong, who turns into a “loser” overnight, widow Seo Eun Woo, and the eccentic, money-hungry Gye Ji Han as they adjust to life in Gyesu village.
With talent, brains, and handsome looks, Yoo Se Yeob (Yoo Se Poong) quickly rises as a popular star doctor in the royal palace. However, he meets a swift descent when his treatment on the king goes wrong, leading to the king’s death. Yoo Se Yeob is immediately banished from the palace and forbidden to re-enter the city of Hanyang.
He falls into a deep rut but is fatefully saved by Seo Eun Woo who tells him, “How come you save the lives of others, but do not try to save yourself?”
The teaser also dives into the unknown past of Seo Eun Woo. At a young age, Seo Eun Woo gets tied in to a sudden marriage and is left a widow soon after when her husband dies unexpectedly. Despite her misfortune, Seo Eun Woo is bright, diligent, and curious, readily examining dead bodies and hunting down murderers.
However, there is more to Seo Eun Woo’s past than it initially seems. Looking distraught and empty, Seo Eun Woo whispers to herself, “If it’s more help to my family that I’m dead rather than alive, would it have been better for me to die?”
Yoo Se Poong also has an unusual first meeting with Gye Ji Han. While Yoo Se Poong is trying to save a patient, his anxiety and lack of confidence throws him in a panic and he fails to stop his hands from shaking. At the perfect moment, Gye Ji Han flies in like a breath of fresh air to save the patient and make fun of Yoo Se Poong.
As if that wasn’t enough, Gye Ji Han proposes that Yoo Se Poong look after patients at Gyesu clinic for the next eleven days. Without even a chance to escape, Yoo Se Poong gets tied up at Gyesu clinic and meets a diverse group of patients.
Perhaps it’s due to Yoo Se Poong’s good looks, but Gyesu clinic suddenly becomes a hot place and the doctor rediscovers his purpose in life. To help him gain perspective, Gye Ji Han tells Yoo Se Poong, “You think you can solve everything, right? Don’t do anything. You have to let go of everything in order to hold again.”
Similar to their first meeting, Yoo Se Poong and Seo Eun Woo meet again in extreme conditions – with Seo Eun Woo on the brink of death this time. When Yoo Se Poong wakes one night from his recurring nightmare of the palace incident, he walks outside to see a young woman in the water. He recognizes her as the woman who saved his life and hurries to help her but she angrily shouts at him, “Why are you trying to save me?!” Yoo Se Poong emotionally tells her, “How can you save me but try to take your own life? Please give me the chance to save you.”
Although Yoo Se Poong has started a new life in Gyesu village, he cannot fully escape from his life in the palace. When the instrument he used to treat the king is later discovered, he must find out the reason behind its discoloration. Additionally, Yoo Se Poong must go up against the forces who are out to kill him.
When Yoo Se Poong is still distraught and in disbelief that he no longer has his god-like acupuncture skills, Gye Ji Han tells him, “If you can’t do acupuncture, you can try moxibustion, and if you can’t use moxibustion, you can use herb medicine. If you just run away, does it get solved, you idiot?”
