ENA Responds To Speculation Of "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" Being Based Off Real Figures
ENA has responded to speculation about “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.”
The drama tells the story of Woo Young Woo (Park Eun Bin), a young lawyer with Asperger’s syndrome who joins a major law firm. Due to her high IQ of 164, impressive memory, and creative thought process, the brilliant Woo Young Woo graduates at the top of her class from the prestigious Seoul National University for both college and law school – but she still finds herself struggling when it comes to social interactions.
Episode 12 of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” focused on a lawsuit between an insurance company and married couples working at the company, with the wives being the target of invalid dismissals under the guise of employee restructuring.
In the episode, Lee Bong Ryun made a special appearance as lawyer Ryu Jae Sook who represented the insurance company’s female employees. After watching the broadcast, some viewers expressed the opinion that the character of Ryu Jae Sook reminded them of Park Won Soon, a former mayor of Seoul who worked as a lawyer before his mayoral campaign.
Despite having been an accomplished lawyer and mayor, even winning Korea’s first sexual harassment conviction, Park Won Soon was accused of sexual harassment in July 2020 by his longtime secretary.
Due to speculation that Ryu Jae Sook’s character was based off Park Won Soon, ENA commented, “Just like all the other episodes, the story of episode 12 is excerpted from our case book. It is unrelated to any particular person and we ask that you refrain from over-interpreting and speculating.”
“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” will air its final two episodes on August 17 and 18 at 9 p.m. KST.
