Red Velvet's Joy, Chu Young Woo, And Baek Sung Chul Are Unlikely Neighbors In “Once Upon A Small Town”
Kakao TV’s upcoming series “Once Upon a Small Town” has revealed new character posters!
“Once Upon a Small Town” is based on a web novel of the same name and is about a man from Seoul meeting a policewoman while living in the countryside. Along with the love story of the two characters against the backdrop of fresh nature, the drama will depict the joys and sorrows of the pure and humane people of Heedong Village.
The posters capture the daily lives and feelings of Ahn Ja Young (Red Velvet’s Joy) in a potato field, Han Ji Yool (Chu Young Woo) in a dairy farm, and Lee Sang Hyun (Baek Sung Chul) in a peach farm in Heedong Village where it is full of greenery.
In the first poster, Ahn Ja Young, a police officer and Heedong Village’s busybody, is in the midst of harvesting crops that have grown abundantly in a prosperous year. She is smiling brightly as she holds out a potato that is in the size of her own face, radiating refreshing energy even in the sweltering heat. It appears very natural for Ahn Ja Young to be working in the field with a towel hung over her shoulders, sitting on a small stool that is used for farming work.
Widely acknowledged as the “human civil complaint service center,” Ahn Ja Young goes on patrol in her police uniform, but when someone needs a helping hand, she will immediately get to work in the fields. In her poster, she says, “Leave all civil complaints and farming to me,” showing her lovely nature and affection for her hometown.
Another poster shows Han Ji Yool spacing out among the cows grazing while holding a shovel in his left hand. It appears as if he is thinking, “Who am I? Where am I?“ Viewers can immediately read his feelings as the text on his poster reads, “Why am I here… I want to go to Seoul.” Han Ji Yool, who works as a veterinarian in Heedong Village, is still unfamiliar with the town. Unlike at the veterinary hospitals in Seoul, it is not easy for him to adapt to treating cattle, pigs, and goats. It is also very tiring for him to get along with people who don’t seem to care about the privacy of others. Viewers are curious to find out about the foreseeable turbulent story of Han Ji Yool, a cold city boy, adapting to the countryside.
In the next poster, the pride of Heedong Village and the young and handsome farming successor Lee Sang Hyun takes the main stage—which is the peach farm—with his melancholy gaze and gentle beauty. His appearance, which makes people look back at least once while walking along the rice field, and his sincere and bold desire as a young farmer to make peaches the specialty of Heedong Village are already gaining attention. However, there is one thing that even Lee Sang Hyun, who seems perfect in every aspect, finds difficult—that is love. Lee Sang Hyun and Ahn Ja Young have been friends since they were born, but at some point Lee Sang Hyun started to have feelings for Ahn Ja Young and wanted to be more than just friends. Ahn Ja Young seems completely unaware of his feelings. Like peaches that are growing very ripe, Sang Hyun is waiting for Ja Young’s feelings to “grow” too.
“Once Upon a Small Town” premieres on September 5 at 7 p.m. KST.
