This fantasy romance is based on a popular webtoon and tells the story of a 22-year-old college student named Lee Dam (Girl’s Day’s Hyeri) who accidentally swallows the marble of a 999-year-old male gumiho (a mythological nine-tailed fox) named Shin Woo Yeo (Jang Ki Yong), who was close to achieving his goal of becoming human. Shin Woo Yeo reveals himself to Lee Dam and suggests that they live together until they can figure out a way to get the bead out of her safely. The drama starts off as a frightening cohabitation with a mythical being, but as Shin Woo Yeo gradually becomes more human-like because of Lee Dam, it gets more exciting to see a budding romance between the two. This K-drama is the first to star a goblin and his bride as protagonists. “Bride of the Water God” features Nam Joo Hyuk as the water god Ha Baek who descends from the world of the gods to meet his human bride. Shin Se Kyung plays Yoo So Ah, a human who is part of a family that has been destined to serve the water god for generations. The drama is a spin-off version of the cartoon of the same name. Unlike the cartoon, this drama is set against the backdrop of modern South Korea involving characters from the original cartoon. However, things take an interesting turn when Goo Chan Sung (Yeo Jin Goo), an assistant manager who was promised the hotel by his father, shows up. Welcoming various types of ghosts as hotel guests, this series can be freaky at times, but the romantic tales involving the characters really make it an enticingly interesting watch.
